My family and I just returened from our 8/22 3-day cruise. We stayed in a cat. 4 cabin because we took my mother- in- law with us and we needed the larger cabin.

We are looking to book next years 8/23 7-day cruise this time and it will just be DH, myself, DS 14 & DD 5.

How does the cat. 5 differ from the cat 6. (both having verandahs)?

I have been told that there is no difference between the rooms just the deck that you are on, is this true?

Do you feel the ship rocking more the lower you go?

How are the verandahs on the lower decks? are they plexi glass also? do they have obstructions?

Any other information that you may think is helpful is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all that can offer some info, we want to enjoy our next cruise as much as our first!

My 500th post! I'm closing in on Dave:

The two categories are exactly the same, the only difference is the deck. Cat 5's are all on deck 7, while cat 6's are on 5 & 6. The room layout and verandahs are the same. The railings for both are plexiglass in those cabins forward of the category 7 rooms on each deck. Aft of these rooms, they are solid metal.

Conventional wisdom is that you feel the ship less the lower you go. I personally don't notice a lot of difference either way.

The only other thing I can think of to add to the category comparison is that on deck 7 there are fewer staterooms than on deck 6 (180 vs. 246), so there may be less hall traffic on deck 7. Deck 6 has inside rooms all the way up and down the deck, while on deck 7, there aren't as many. Deck 5 has the kids clubs and the movie theatre, but the cabins are well forward or aft of these, and I don't think they'd be a factor in any noise on the deck.

We were in Cat. 5 last year. They ran a special on the cruise to book again, so we asked and they said it is exactly the same except the cat. 6 is one deck lower and you wouldn't notice the rocking as much. Just depends on how high you want to go! For me, saving money AND saving my stomach was like hitting the jackpot!

I love Deck 5 - AFT. It's convenient, quiet and I can see through the plexiglass and the water is soooo calming - although I am very prone to nausea, I use bonine and do very well.

A word of warning - If anyone tries to take MY room - well, I'll just have to chase them down and stuff a chocolate souffle in their hands! Talking seriously about LOVING that room!
