Cat 4 vs. Cat 5

We have 3 kids, so we have to go in a Cat 4 to be all together. We have done this once already. On our next one, I may talk my parents into going along. We could move down to a cat. 5 and still have a balcony and let one of the kids be booked with grandma and grandpa in their cabin. It would save us some money, obviously, paying for 2 adults and 3 kids in cat 5 instead of cat 4, but I wonder how different the cabins are. Is the cat 5 much smaller than cat 4? If we've been in cat 4 before, will we be spoiled and not be happy with cat 5? It seems like if it still has a balcony, it can't be that different , but I know that they are a little smaller.
Anyone have any insight??

The extra space in the cat 4 comes from the pull-down murphy bed area; you'll lose that in a cat 5, along with losing the extra clothes storage in the dresser across from the Murphy.

Are G&G contemplating a cat 5 room as well? Maybe booking adjoining rooms would work out well.

How about connecting Category 6's? 6's are the same as 5's except that they're on Decks 5 and 6 rather than 7. We did connecting 6's with our extended family and it worked out well.

I had told my TA to check cat 5 or 6, but she said since we had to have 4 people in one of the cabins it would have to be cat 5. I assumed that meant that cat 6 can only have 3 people. Is that not the case? Maybe she just meant that all the cat 6 cabins that can hold 4 people were already booked??

By the way - that would be a bummer to lose that storage chest across from the murphy bed! We had all the kids clothes in it on our last cruise!

Category 6 can definitely hold 4 people, unless as you said, all those are booked. Category 7 will only hold 3 people....maybe that is what he/she was refering to.

Not all Cat 6's sleep 4. The stateroom we had last year (6550) did - it had the pull down bed. The room we have this year (6332) doesn't have the pull down (from what I've been told) so it will only sleep 3.

What's the difference between the storage chest across from the murphy bed and the one that is across from the Queen in a 6?

Both category 5 and 6 are listed in the brochure as sleeping either 3 or 4. As candleonwater pointed out, not all cat. 6's sleep 4. The same is the case for category 5. I would have your TA clarify if there are no cat. 6's left which will sleep 4, or if she is under the impression that all cat. 6's sleep only 3. The difference in price could be several hundred dollars, but the difference in room is just which deck it is on.

The difference between cat. 4 and 5/6 is 36 sq. ft. I think this is computes to about 4 feet in length for the cabin, where the murphy bed is, as Firefighter Mickey pointed out. The category 4's are listed at 304 sq. ft., and the 5's and 6's (and 7's) are listed at 268 sq. ft.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll check when I call her back as to whether all the 6's that sleep 4 are taken and if that's why she said that. Is it true that there is a storage chest in the 5/6's as well? That would make a difference in having enough room for all our stuff!
