Hi there... to anyone who has been in Cat 3, 2 or 1.

I take it you can order breakfast, lunch or dinner from the restaurant menus...?

This is different from the normal room service menus?

Is there a menu section on the board somewhere (I am new)

Thanx!

>>^..^<<

In your stateroom will be copies of all the menus. You can order a full room-service breakfast each day and lunch and dinner from the SAME menus that are served that day in the regular restaurants. :)

We only managed to eat in our stateroom for breakfast each day, there were just too many other better choices for lunch and dinner. :)

Hi WM

Thanx for your response... does that mean you stayed in Category 3?

How was your cabin and other services?

Do you have a trip report somewhere that I can read??

Thanx

>>^..^<<

Yes, I've been in a Cat. 3 twice. :) No trip reports but I'm happy to answer any questions about it!

I actually photographed the menus from the book for the CAT 3, I'm going to try to get a bunch of stuff uploaded this weekend.

We only had breakfast in the room, every other meal we ate out. We did go out for breakfast one morning (plus the last morning when there isn't an option for in room dining), but I actually preferred the in room dining for breakfast.

We had spectacular service. I think you read the trip reports I had posted. I loved the cabin, the amount of space, and the level of service.

Since we had first seating and wanted to watch us sail away, we had dinner the first night in our room (Cat 3). The food arrived in less than 30 minutes and was as good as any dinner we ate in the dining rooms. The room and service was very nice, but I'm not sure I would spend the money on a Cat 3 (or higher) again, because of the noise from deck 9 early in the morning (4:30am or so).

Now.... if someone wants to give me a week in one of those rooms......

;) ;)

...you have to pay for a week in one of those rooms! however, they are more than worth the money!

our first cat 3 and above was a cat 3 on the 4-day. as a treat on our first 7-day, my dh was able to secure us the (cat 1) walt disney suite. what a treat! there was almost as much room in that suite as the first floor of my house! the boys had a great time in rotating between the 2 upper bunks in the 2nd bedroom, and i LOVED having breakfast out on our balcony.

if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi.. I am booked in Cat # 3 (8532) and I am so looking forward to breakfast on the balcony =)

A few questions for you experts...

1) What is an appropriate tip for the room service people?

2)dizneykids - my gosh - the walt disney suite! Do you have any photos to share??

3)outtahere - noise?? was your suite one of the ones under topsiders? please define noise LOL!

Thanx everyone

Finally broke 200 on my countdown clock today =)

1. hmmm.....good question! dh always handled that, but i think he'd give them $5 (cash, too, i think, but can't be sure without asking him) a trip depending on how much food they brought.

2. photos? sure! got lots. need to find a way to share them, though. give me a couple days!

3. noise...yep, noise. the decks are metal, as you can imagine, so you will hear noise from just about anything, including a ping pong ball bouncing on deck (no lie!). we've been fortunate in that we were midships each time we were on deck 8. i imagine if you are under or close to under topsiders, it can be even noisier as they set up for the morning rush.

the noise was a bit of a blessing on our last cruise as i heard the running (yes, running) on deck an hour or so before they finally roused everyone to get on deck (in those lovely orange life vests) because the fire that started in the aft stacks was not under control. by that point, we were well aware that there was a problem, had dressed and put our kids in clothes so they wouldn't be cold if we had to evacuate (which we did for well over an hour). but that's another story, isn't it? ;)

Hard to imagine hearing ping pong balls and footsteps above you.. but I guess sound travels through steel.. even in a suite lol.

When you say you had to evacuate... you mean evacuate the ship? or your cabin?? Please tell me you were not in the water on a tender or something?

I have had 2 ships sink that I have sailed on... one was a ferry from dover to calais "Free enterprise" she sank a couple of years later when they did not secure the ferry doors properly.

I also sailed on the Oceanus in the caribbean.. it sunk a few years later off the coast of south africa... I quite often see footage of that ship going down on those disaster programs on TLC & DIS channels... it is so strange to see our cabin window going under and imagine it now somewhere under the sea full of water!

I also was on a ship in the mediteranean off the coast of italy that had a fire in the boiler room and lost all power... no elevators, total darkness making our way up on deck- with 800 other people..... was really scary with no engines or stabilizers the ship was rolling really badly.

Anyway.,.. fire went out, engine started up, lights came on... then we discoverd that we were covered in soot... clothes, hair, deck.. it was a real mess for them to clean up.. all the carpets inside etc..

So far so good for the Disney Line after having me as a passenger in 2000 lol

Anyway.. I digress... I hope you are able to show us some photos of your walt disney suite stay! It sounds amazing - give your hubby a hug tonight.

1. I gave them $5 each morning for delivering and setting up teh full breakfast. We never ate on the verandah, I did often take my tea out there. Now that I think about it, some mornings I ahd them bring tea first, then ordered breakfast a bit later. When they only borught tea I gave $2. For cheese and crakers I tipped $2. Always be prepared to tip in cash for room service.

3. We heard a little bit of noise, but it was in the evening (between 8-11) more than anything. Nothing that was so disturbing that it would make me not stay int aht cabin again though. Mostly just footsteps--kids running, that kind of thing. We are pretty early risers, so I think by 9:00am it might start to get a bit noisy. But because we were already up and about it was fine. Yes, we did hear ping pong balls during the day, but it never bothered me. I would just turn the CD player louder...and yes, if you were on the August 24 sailing last year and heard the Nickelback blaring from 8032, it was ME :)

Huh? I'm not sure if it was always this way, but on my cruise last week when room service came in they brought a receipt in with the food that had the itemized order (everything had $0.00 beside it), and then there was a spot for a tip on the bottom just like every other restaurant receipt. I just filled out that portion, and on our account summery it had them listed.

Must be something new then, in AuUgust there were no reciepts unless you ordered alcohol or bottled water, or something else that wasn't "free".

Here's a great link for a great trip report on a category 3.

http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/toast/toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=10&tid=12286

We stayed in the same room (2002 Christmas Cruise) as the trip report and the only complaint I had was the noise in the a.m. (4:30 a.m.) I wish Disney would make the people setting up the deck not drag the chairs into place, but they don't. You do hear the running, etc. during the day and evening, but that didn't bother me as much as it did at 4:30 a.m. ;)

We have booked another Category 3 but mid ship this time.

We always tipped $2 per person for room service. So if we ordered three breakfast trays, we tipped $9. I kept a stack of singles in the draw near the bed so the kids could order from room service when they wanted. Which they did a lot!

We never saw a restaurant receipt, but never ordered anything that required payment.

You won't be disappointed in the room or the verandah.

Wow.. that is a great trip report.. thanx sassy.

Question.... does anyone know if the cat 3's on the Wonder are decorated the same as the cat 3's on the magic?

Thanx
>>^..^<<

I thought I read about having cash for tips on the boards before I left, but once on the ship we were told it was "Key to the World" only as far as spending went, and the same thing went for in-room dining tips. Does anyone know if it is just this way on the Wonder only, or if the Magic is now like this too?

Thanks. :)

Cali, the cash tips are for the room service folks. :) If they bring you food and drink that is not charged (and the only thing you would pay for is soda, bottled water or alcohol) there is no charge slip to sign, so we tip room service a few dollars each time. You do need CASH for that. :)

The Wonder and Magic have different stateroom decors so they are slightly different in the Cat. 3s as well.
