Casts on water rides?

So, we've had this trip planned for MONTHS. We're treating the in-laws and 2 nieces to 5 days in the parks, it's a HUGE big deal for our family to get to do this trip together and we're all so excited we can already barely sleep at night....so naturally, the 9 year old niece falls while playing the other day at a friend's house and breaks her arm.

She'll still be able to go on rides, right? Will we need to reschedule our trip? And, if she can ride the rides, what can we do about her cast on water rides? Anybody have experience with this?

TIA for any info!

Carry a bag with you and put it on her arm right before getting on the ride.

My daughter just got a cast off her arm. The hospital we took her too doesn't do casts with the cotton sleeve/cotton wrap any longer. Instead, it's some other water proof padding that goes on before the actual cast is wrapped making it 100% waterproof and submersible.

yeah i suggest like a bag also, like a disneyland bag! :) and tape it around the cast. i am sure she can still go on rides! :)

Thanks for your quick responses! I appreciate the info....I was worried there for a second, as I've already put a TON of planning into this trip and really, really, really did not want to have to reschedule. Although, I would have if it meant she couldn't go on rides.

it is just a broken arm..its' not like she just had spinal surgery! LOL :) oh i have never had a broken arm,but im sure she will be fine!! make sure a character signs it!! lol :)

She will be fine! My son broke his a year ago and within a week as soon as the final cast was on he was back practicing soccer with his team (couldn't play in games). Definitely have them ask about the waterproof lining. This was WONDERFUL! He could shower and even swim without any worries!

And really, the only rides you'll really have to worry about it on is Grizzly River Run and possibly Splash Mountain. Oh, and the canoes if you choose to do that, occasionally you get splashed on that one.

True, it's not spinal surgery, but I still don't want to waste thousands of dollars on her very first disneyland trip if she won't even be able to ride the rides while she's there, know what I mean? I wasn't sure if there were restrictions in place in the parks about people with casts not being able to ride the rides.

Thanks, I'll ask what kind of cast she was given (they live out of state), but I'm pretty sure it wasn't waterproof (hence, the reason MIL was asking me what we should do about her cast on water rides). Those kind of casts sound great for kids, though. :)

I got more wet on that than I did Splash Mt! There was a little girl in front of me that didn't quite know how to paddle and was doing it in my direction...!

MUGGLEMAMA.if you are that worried. call them! ask, it never hurts to call them up and ask. i don't see how they would hav a problem in casts in the park, i see people in wheelchairs all the time with broken limbs ..

I hate when that happens! Lol lol.:rotfl2:how about when they smack the ore down in the water, or scoop the water with th ore and it goes into your face! :rotfl2:

you know, this is the second time this week in a thread you have seemed overtly grouchy towards me. if you don't like me, please don't respond to my posts. i was asking for info from people who'd had specific experience with casts in the parks. it doesn't sound like you have any.

I think all of the above was happening to me! :rotfl:

pssst.. here's a secret trick.. we had the same situation with DD 2 years ago when she was 8...

Send your hubby to the Drug store, and have him pick up a pack of non lubricated Magnum's :)

They slip over the cast quite easily, and are somewhat discrete as they are clear (only one CM noticed on our entire trip) and very durable, DD even went swimming with one) and Hubby gets an ego boost :)

Of course, i wouldn't mention what they are called to your kids.. as the one time people did notice en masse, was at the water park when DD almost forgot to put the cover on before hitting the wave pool and came running back "Daddy Daddy, I forgot my condom!!!"

:rotfl2:

LOL Mugglemama I read your title as CATS on water rides and could not figure why a cat would be on a water ride....LOL OMG I need to clean to my contacts....LOL

See if they have a waterproof cast or can get one, otherwise I'd go with a plastic bag. Not sure I'd have the guts to use a Magnum....LOL

HAHAHAHA! cats on water rides!!! too funny! LOL, that's awesome. :rotfl:

I called MIL, and I think we have it all worked out with plastic bags. It's not a waterproof cast.

BDOYLE - Thanks for the suggestion, and I'm sure it would probably work great. ;) However, there's no way on EARTH my MIL would go for that, LOL!!

Hahaha :) I understand (it's amazing how much stigma is attached to a silicon rubber protective barrier just because of it's primary use!!!) :lmao:

Oddly enough.. MY MIL reacted the same way! :rotfl:

They're just old school, lol!

My MIL and FIL are actually these 2 little girls' legal guardians and have been raising them since birth - so, they are technically their grandparents, but for all intents and purposes, they are their parents. They don't even *say* the word "condom"........LOL!!!! :rotfl2:

Just a note - if you are flying to the park, you may need to have the cast split. This is no big deal, but is required to avoid problems with pressurised flight.

As for rides...my seven year old went with a broken arm on every ride (including that great big perilous plunge at Knotts berry farm). No problems at all, but she did wear a cast cover, easy to purchase and they do fit more securely than plastic bags - she can swim with it on. A wet cast is no fun!

Enjoy!:)

They are driving and meeting us there, so flights won't be a problem. Thanks for the info! I didn't know about cast covers (none of my kids have ever broken anything), so I will mention it to MIL. Thanks again! :)
