Castle crane

I just on another board and someone posted a castle pic w/the crane in the background...that thing was there 2 years ago when we went I believe...what exactly are they doing that takes 2 years to do?

Not sure what it is this time of year.

They often have the crane up to put up and take down the christmas lights...which takes a while to do...but I think it's usually done well before now

My last trip to WDW without The Crane was in 2009 and yes, we are annual visitors. I just see it as an extension of the castle now.

It hasn't been up CONSECUTIVELY for two years, because I was there in December and it wasn't there. It's out now, from my understanding, to do some cleaning and touch ups on the top spires of the castle.

Isn't it there for the Hub renovation now? I really have no idea, but it wasn't in our pictures from our last trip (it was further back - you could see it from Fantasyland but not from Main Street), so I would think with the Hub activity, it's there for that construction.

Nothing at all to do with HUB construction. It is at the back (NE corner) of the Castle and is there to take down the Christmas lights (completed in Jan.) and for some Castle refurbishment work.

The lights seem to be down (as of last week of Feb) and they seem to be doing some painting on the roof. We saw some guys up there. It was pretty cool. Also, they take the crane down in the evening, so you should still be able to get some crane free shots.

We just returned from a quick 3 day weekend trip to get a little sun. The crane is up just behind the castle. The moat is drained and there are cherry pickers elevated during the day touching up the paint. I'm not sure how long the work is scheduled for but it's difficult to get a nice picture of the castle right now.

Also, there is a decent amount of construction being done around the hub... Cosmic Rays outdoor seating, Plaza outdoor seating, and the snack stand in the southeast corner of the hub.

One note... the crane came down for the inaugural run of the Festival of Fantasy Parade. We noticed that while we were finding seats for the parade.
