I was wondering what the water temperature is like in January? This is our first cruise and I wanted to make sure that the boys get to really enjoy the water snorkeling, etc. Is it too chilly? Should I consider wetsuits? We are from Florida so we are used to the water being warm when we go to the beach (but not in January!) Would love any comments or suggestions.

I have cruised in January 4 times now and soon to be 5.

I would think that someone who comes from a warm climate might be disappointed by the water temperature at Castaway Cay at that time of year.

To me (from a northern climate) the water feels warm but not really tropical warm. Last year I thought the water didn't feel too bad for temperature but lots of other people were complaining about how cold it was.

I have never seen anyone using wet suits before though.

We thought the water comfy. We were not freezing when we were in it. But there were others that thought it was cool. But we left zero degree weather, so anything above 60 felt warm. We will be cruising again this coming January.

I'm with the others. We are from a place where ocean water temps are cold in July. So being able swim in January was so much fun. You may be chilly, we were not though.

In January I found the water cooler than I wanted but I still snorkeled and stayed in the water for hours. I think if you are active in the water you will be fine. If you just want to float, you will probably be a little too cool, especially if there is a breeze or it is cloudy.

Even if you don't spend all day in the water there is plenty to do and you're on CC - a spectacularly beautiful spot!

Have fun!

I too was at Castaway Cay at the end of January and thought the water was cold. My son, who loves the water whenever he can get to some, didnt even go in because he thought it was too cold. He layed on a chair with a towel covering him....lol. I thought it was a bit chilly but there were definitely people swimming all over the place.

We rented snorkeling equipment and it was never used, except for photo opportunities on shore.

The farther south you are from, the colder you will find the water.
