So we've just gotten back from our first cruise.

How do we become a Castaway Club member? Is it automatic-do they send a card or membership number?

Any details appreciated.

It is automatic, they *will* send you a card... Don't hold your breath on it arrving anytime soon... We have received 2 of 4.. One was in my Daughters name, other in mine....

You don't really need the card if you book another cruise from what I have read.

You get to use a special line when boarding, sometimes longer than the regular line. A meet/greet one night & a gift when you arrive.

No specials or discounts....just the perks already listed...

Separate check-in line (which is truly longer sometimes)
Beach towel and 2 pins per stateroom (not per person)
invite to cocktail reception with Captain and senior officers

that is about it....

You've been on a DCL cruise, then you're a member. Welcome to the club!!
Do you get a card or a number? Sometimes, but it doesn't really matter.

Now for those wonderful benefits of being a member...
1) You have a "private, members only line" to check in at the port in - oh yea, it's usually the longest one there.
2) Free room upgrades happen only in your dreams - unless you're one of the random, luck few to get them - in this case membership doesn't have it's privledges.
3) You do get a couple of trading pins and a beach towel on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise and on your next cruise

They used to have a really great DCL medium sized dufflebag that's a really nice size and actually fits under the seat in an airplane along with my DW's feet (NOTHING fits under the seat except for my huge feet).

4) There is a Castaway Club Reception where you get to meet the captain of the ship and other officers. No wait, that was 3 or 4 years ago, now the line to meet the captian is a mile long - and they have to use the entire nightclub area to fit everyone in. But there is free rum punch (that I don't care for) and a really nice appetizer buffet - which is very, very nice.
5) Sometimes you receive "special deals" in the mail - you know full price rooms during hurricanne season - "but hurry and book now, these rooms are going fast". Yea, you can get the same room, same time for a lot less money from other sources.

Am I bitter, nope:) I just am sounding that way to make the point that being in the Castaway club currently isn't that big of a deal. :rolleyes1 What does DCL get by me being in the club - they get my money over and over again. We've cruised DCL many, many times and will continue to do so. Just not for the "perks" of being "in the club". We love everything else that they do for the cruise. :wave2:

Thanks, you guys are great.

Won't hold my breath though!
