Castaway Club Lanyards

On one of our silver cruises we got 2 shiny /soft lanyards and 2 scratchy ones. The gold lanyards have all been smooth though and not had a problem with the plastic holder part of any of them.
We put our pins on them that we are going to trade and then any new pins we purchase goes on the cruise lanyard we buy in the shop.

I like the soft nylon ones better, but the scratchy one seems to be stronger in fabric.

Love your Dobie and a new, or two, pin is my favorite souvenir!!

Thank you! :) He is my big baby.

Pins are a must have souvie on cruises. My husband has managed to get all the anchor pins and all the new life preserver pins. I missed out on all of the first anchor pin collection but have the second and all the life preservers.

Yes, it is an obsession.

I was confused about the lanyards on our last cruise. There was one 1 gold Castaway Club person, 2 silver and 1 newbie. I thought I read somewhere that everyone in the cabin is treated like the highest CC level and figured that we would all get gold lanyards. I was wrong.:rolleyes1 Gold got a gold, silver got silver and the newbie got nothing. Ended up having to buy a lanyard when there were so many at home. :headache:
The only part where the "highest level" is important is for the onboard gift you get in the room, and booking excursions/check in date. The lanyards are strictly by whatever each person's level is.

Hmm, guess I'm misremembering it then. Stinks being human and making mistakes.

I only remember so distinctly because I missed that feature so much on the Magic after our Fantasy cruise. It was so easy to make sure that all lights are turned off. :goodvibes

The whole idea of giving the lanyards to repeat cruisers seems backward to me. Lanyards on a cruise ship (especially warm weather when people are wearing swim attire without pockets ) seem essential to me. So, first time cruisers who dont know this are caught unaware and feel grouchy, annoyed until they find a solution, but the cruisers who have drawers full of lanyards and know they need a plan for their card are given another one free....? :confused3Just really seems like they should give one to everyone.

Good to know. I also thought everyone was treated like the highest CC level.

Our experience has been the cabin is treated at the highest CC level, individual things like lanyards, shop discounts are at their individual level. The cabin may have comp dinner at Palo (platinum), early activity booking and boarding preference.

Funny lanyard story. We are current gold, but I had a camera strap made out of the original black lanyard that looked very similar to the current platinum. On our last cruise, we were at the MDR trying to change tables and the manager didn't seem all that interested. I will swear, when he noticed my lanyard/camera strap, his attitude changed. I don't know if I was imaging things or not.

We just used an old store loyalty card that I had in my wallet for the power slot, it doesn't need to be a KTTW card. We left it on a closet shelf right across from the switch when we went out.

We also use an old store loyalty card, but we just leave it in the slot the whole time. There is no need to remove it. Works like a charm!

I like a clip on holder so the lanyard is not on my neck so I will bring backup

The last DCL cruise I went on, the person who went with me was a first-timer (it was my third), and we got two lanyards, two aluminum water bottles, and one bag. Is this because the "gift" is meant for two people, or did we just get lucky?

This thread also reminds me that I need to find my old lanyards for my cruise in January, just in case they don't give us one for my sister (her first cruise)

When was that cruise?

Typically lanyards are only given (at check in) for the returning cruiser. First timers don't get one. BUT, sometimes, CMs mess up and give everyone one.

The aluminum water bottles were part of the CC gift about 5-6 years ago (beach bag, two bottles, two rice krispie flip-flop treats, and a key ring):
