Castaway Cay shade near the water?

The last time my family was at Castaway Cay my kids loved building sand castles and playing in the sand by the water. They had on sunscreen however having them in the direct sun all day worries me. I know they have umbrellas by the loungers but those are to far from the water to do any good. Does anyone know if you can bring your own sunshade and put it up by the water, or if there is anywhere on Castaway that has shade near the water? Also, do the cabanas give you any shade near the water or provide you with umbrellas you can place where you want?

We had a cabana last Summer, and the chairs were close to the water, along with the umbrellas. The cabanas themselves are a distance from the water. I would put your kids in rash guards, and hats and slather on the sunblock :)

No shade by the water. I would think they would not want you to move umbrellas due to possible injury if umbrella went flying across the beach (I have seen that happen several times on other beaches and can be very dangerous).

I agree with the idea of putting the kids in rash guards, hats and sunscreen.

I believe the umbrellas at Castaway Cay are set in concrete (down in the sand) and pretty much stay where they are.

Yes, I assumed they were somehow permanent or very hard to move for the reasons I mentioned. they can't be responsible for guests trying to plant umbrellas unsuccessfully!

You should have them wear sun screen, swim shirts, and hats. You can't keep all the sun off of them, but the measures I suggest will help.

Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions. We do and will keep using sunscreen, uv protective swim shirts and hats. I will call Disney and ask if we can bring our own portable sunshade. I will poast an update on what I find out.

I don't think they're on the prohibited list, but I would think that one reason Disney doesn't have shade/umbrellas at the water line is to not block the view of people who want the full unblocked view of the ocean.

Not to mention the issue of staking it down so that it doesn't fly away. Putting out guy lines to keep it staked down could be problematic for people walking/kids playing along the water line.

You have a good point, didn't think about all that. We were a little worried putting up a sunshade might make it tougher for some of the lifeguards to see what is going on near the water. I guess we'll just stick with the uv protective cloathing and sunscreen.Thanks.
