Castaway Cay is Being Hammered By JEANNE

Here we go again! :sad2:

Hang in there CC!!!:cheer2:

I hope the kitties were evacuated again!:(

:( Oh no not again! We made it there last Friday and had a ball! The vegetation was very brown due to the salt water. They said that in a few weeks it would be green again but who knows when it will green up again now.
Many of the local Bahmian CMs live on Great Abaco and already suffered a great deal of personal loss. I hope that they are safe as well.
::yes::

Not quite as bad as last time for CC. This time the north side of Grand Bahama is taking the brunt of it. Here's an easier to read map.

The island is definitely within the area of hurricane force winds, but is on the edge of it. Last time the eye of the hurricane went right over. CC is the little dot just to the left of the triangular shaped island just south of the center of the hurricane.

I'm more worried about the Bahama islanders too, it's hitting them VERY hard and will probably pass right over Freeport.

I can't believe it! We were just there on wenesday. It was a little wind blown but otherwise paradise as usual. I hope it can take this one as well as it took the others.

Most importantly I hope that all islanders and Floridians are safe and do not endure any more hardship.

If for some reason we cannot stop there on October 8th, we will always remember our other two times there but our thoughts will certainly be with others that day and not about what we cannot do.

It doesn't look good...did you see the news on Yahoo ? The article said Abaco is being hit hard...not just the wind this time but lots of water.

No, it certainly doesn't look good for the Bahama islands this time. The islanders are in for a heap of trouble from this one. Abaco really took a hard hit.

I think it would be better to have the eye directly over the island. I believe it is the eye band that is more destructive than the eye itself??

My thoughts and prayers are with all that continue to be in harms way this hurricane season. It is just devastating to see all the loss and damage that all these storms have caused.

The weather channel has been busy showing live reports from Abaco Island. Abaco looks like it made it through Jeanne without any MAJOR damage, more boats misplaces, some flooding, and cosmetic damage they have said. The power is out however, but the buildings all look to be standing. I'm sure that CC has some damage, but at least it was still a CAT 2 when it hit.

It's the East coast of Florida that is going to have some severe damage tied to this storm. Jeanne is now a CAT 3 and they expect some strengthening prior to making landfall. Our weather is already starting to change here and the first bands are making landfall. It has become very overcast and the winds are picking up. Everyone say a prayer for those on the East Coast who already had to deal with Francis and are now being hit again by Jeanne.

Most definately saying prayers for those Florida East Coaster's and those in other parts of Florida as well!

Depends on which direction the eye band is coming from. In this case, CC possibly got more wind, BUT, Grand Bahama took the brunt of the direct overall effect. But it having been a cat 2 does make a difference too.

Thoughts and prayers going out ! Just spoke with my uncle in Sebastian today. He sounded so upset and stressed. He told me he'll be on the north-end of the "eye"which is not supposed to be good. Also spoke with my aunt further north in Flagler Beach and as I was on the phone with her I could hear the police and fire personnel going up and down her street with a bullhorn. I heard them saying things like "mandatory evacuation", "curfew after 6 pm today", "no using the bridge after 3 pm" and "no 911 emergency calls will be responded to after 9 pm" ! I'm so nervous for both my relatives on the east coast. They're literally blocks from the ocean.
