I was looking at the 2019 double dips, specifically the June 23rd 5-night and the July 3rd 4-night, and am seriously considering booking one of them, even though we typically like to go over Christmas break when it's cold at home. Gave it some thought and figured that if we like going to WDW in summer, why not cruise then, as well. It would work as I'm planning a summer 2019 WDW trip for us, before the Star Wars madness begins, so the trip could just be a combo.

What are people's experiences with CC in late June & early July? Is it nice in the mornings when people first get off the ship, or is it just miserable hot all day? We like to bike around CC, & could do this first thing in the morning if that would help. Are mosquitoes a problem in summer? We've never had a problem with them in winter. Is rain a big problem?

Thanks! :sail:

We did the double dip last year and decided that Castaway Cay was perfect. Crystal clear waters and the sand was very clean. We were in the Fantast last week and the serenity bay beach was a little unpleasant with the all the beached kelp that they did not bother clearing up. Added to this, the temperature was not perfect, with cool winds. I think we’ll stick to warmer temps for cruising to the carribean.

Btw, the family beach looked nice still. It was protected by the breakwater it seems.

How was the heat on the island itself? Okay or yucky hot in your opinion? Also, did you go in early/mid/late June or July? Thanks!

I'd say it should be similar to Florida.. probably rain every day but not all day long. You will enjoy sitting in the water for sure, much more so than in the winter when it's cold.

I hope it will be like Florida. If so, we'll probably be fine as we've enjoyed WDW in July. We've gone three winters in a row and have never been cold on Castaway Cay, though. The weather has always been balmy for us & great for swimming.

Lucky! We were cold on CC 3 years in a row in December and January:( 70 at best and cold water....
July will be hot but being right on the ocean should offer some breeze. Again.. I would love the warm ocean water :)

We went on the double dip last year the middle of June. Several of us ran the 5k and it was super hot - people at the finish were miserable. But the beach was perfectly pleasant the rest of the day. No rain on either day at CC.

Good to know. We ran/walked/crawled the 5K on January 1st one year and were miserable afterwards. Don't think I'll try that in the summer. Or at all again, probably... :beach:

We've done the double dip along with other cruises to CC at that time of year. It is really humid. First thing in the morning it isn't so bad, but by 10am it is humid. It's great beach weather, but you'll be sweating as soon as you get out of the water. I think it is like that on all of the tropical islands. Makes for a great day. We've been in winter months and it is definitely more comfortable. The water is a bit cooler, but nothing extreme. I have come to the conclusion that CC is great in any month.

We've done the double dip early July and love that the water is warm!! We are south Floridians so warm water is important to us:) We have done DCL in January and found it cold- but March through July is just nice. We normally bike/run early, then sit on the beach or in the water most of the day.
