Castaway Cay Glass Bottom Boat Ride

Can anyone tell me if the Castaway Cay Glass Bottom Boat Ride is worth the time and money?

I took this excursion with my DD5 and in laws at the beginning of the EBTA. Other than myself and my daughter, just about everyone else was 60 years old and above. My DD loved the tour as she is very much into all kinds of animals and loved seeing all of the fish, and having the chance to feed the fish. When the food comes out, there are hundreds of fish who come up to the boat. It was also kind of nice to see the island from a different perspective.

Would I do it again? Probably not, as it was probably a bit too expensive for what it was. However, I don't regret doing it as my daughter really loved seeing the fish. So, if you have someone in your party very interested in seeing the fish and coral I would say it is worth it. If your just looking for something to do, I'd say don't spend the extra money.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm This is a tough question to answer!! I don't remember the cost, but I'm going to say no for us!!

First of all I took my 5 year old DS out of the kids program to go on this excursion and he pouted to Mommy because they were getting ready to have a Caribbean Beach Party and DADDY MADE ME LEAVE!!!

They take you out on the boat, which you can see the bottom of the water but moving through you can't see any fish, and when you get to a certain spot they give you food, I think it was oatmeal (which the fish loved), and the fish were nice too look at, but I wouldn't call it spectacular!! They do make a few other spots and point out certain fish.

Depending on the age of your kids and their interests, I guess you have to decide if it's for them. My DS was 3 on the first DCL cruise and he thought it was neat at that age with all the fish jumping up to eat, but at 5 I think he would have had much more fun staying where he was. My DS is NOT the adventurous type, so I have to find subtle things to do with him for now!! When we go back to CC on a double dip next year we will NOT do this again!!

We did this in 2006, it was okay. My kids were 8 and 4 and enjoyed the fish and feeding them, I also think it was oatmeal. There wasn't much to do for my DS4 at the time, so this worked for all of us. Now that they're a little older, we'll try something else, but it was good for the younger ones.

It really wasn't that expensive at all and was a nice boat ride. I liked seeing the different fish and reefs. It was probably one of the less expensive excursions avaliable. I liked feeding the fish as well. My dds were 4 and 9. There are only 2 seats. The rest is standing room only around these barred windows to the sea. Here are a few pics.

Yep I got some really good shots of some jet skiers, the Castaway beaches, the Wonder, and the Flying Dutchman from the Glass Bottom boat. Since it's going to be our third trip we are saving our money for the dolphin excursion on Nassau.

It is a nice boat ride (although you have to stand the whole time -- there are about 2 benches 4 - 6 seats which are not around the rail to see out the glass bottom). We did it last year, just to do something a little different at CC. They seem to have a set pattern. Like everyone else said, you go out to a particular spot and they have you feed the fish to get them to swim by. While we were stopped there, the "guide" was going on about fire coral. We spotted a shark that we pointed out to others. The "guide" still went on about the fire coral until he realized noone was listening and we were looking out the side and not at the glass bottom. By time he reacted and asked the captain to try to move to find the shark again, it was gone (we had been watching it on our own for about 5 minutes). His response to that was "Yeah, it's open water. It could've been a shark." So if you are looking to see more than the fish that were posted. I'd say save your money.

Thanks everyone! There will be no kids on the next cruise. They are going to be staying with the grandparents since they will be in school. It will just be myself and my dh (I'd be lying if I didn't say I was thrilled). The boat ride doesn't sound so fun if we have to stand the whole time. I think I would rather just bask on the beach and spend my money on a foo foo drink.

I, too, did not think the glass bottom boat was worth the time and money. You have to stand the whole time, and we really didn't see that many interesting fish. We (2 adults) were very disappointed and would not recommend it at all.
