I read on the Disney excursion page that to Parasail, children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Does this mean on the boat, or do both people go up together? My DS (11) really wants to do this, but does not meet the 90 pound weight. He is worried he won't be able to gain 20 pounds in 5 weeks and I really don't want him trying to.

About the banana boat ride, Disney says that kids must be 8 yo and be able to swim. While my son can swim, he is not a strong swimmer. Is there a chance he may fall off (I think this is probably very possible) and if he does, would he have to swim to shore or tread water for very long until picked up by someone? I think we would enjoy this ride, but I don't want him scared to death about having to swim to shore either.

TIA

Re: parasailing. If I remember correctly, he can not go up alone, and must go up with an adult. Also, they only let paying parasailers on the boat out. My dh swears that the tandem parasailing he did w/ dd was much better than doing it solo. It was a great experience for both of them. So, to do it tandem, it will cost you 2 fares. Just a heads up......I trust the parasailing outfit on CC much better than on some of the islands. These guys really do it right.

re: banana boat. No, your son won't need to swim to shore. If he falls off, he will be bouyed up w/the life vest, and just needs to bob in the water till they swing the banana boat around and he gets on again. It really doesn't take any swimming skill other than to not panic in the water. Oh, take goggles with you for that one and leave the sunglasses on the beach!!!

If my DS is not 90 pounds yet, can he go tandem parasailing with an adult? Or will he be too small for the harness?

Pal2Pluto,

Thank you for the great information. Am I right to assume the combined weight for the tandem flight must be between 90 and 375 pounds and that my son does not need to be 90 pounds by himself? I think there would not be many children his age or younger that would meet the weight requirement alone.

Just got back from the Feb 6th cruise. I parasailed and it was awesome.

THe posts above are correct.. only paying parasails can go out.

It is a total weight thing. So if you are going tandem, you will be fine. They tell you when you get there that the captian will make the decision based on available wind who gets to fly.

Definately do it with your son.. It will be memorable

Thanks everyone for the responses. I wished I had asked last year before our cruise, we would have went then. I read the information to mean that he had to be 90 pounds. We will definitely do this together and I am sure it will be one of our most memorable moments.
