Castaway Cay Cancelled :(

Our CC day wasn't cancelled, but it was cut way short by a medical emergency in the middle of the night. We woke up in Nassau instead of CC. Didn't make it there until about 1:00. They made us get off the island around 5:30. It was a major bummer, but not as much as if it had been cancelled entirely.

We got off the Magic on the 15th and we were able to make all stops thank goodness. But on the last night of the cruise it was horrible....heard that the swells were 10 feet. There were sick people all over the ship. It sounds like you got caught in that????

How terribly disappointing! I'm looking forward to our first cruise in May, and I'm very excited about CC. I would be completely broken hearted if we couldn't dock. So sorry for you!

Sorry that you missed CC. I'd be disappointed, too. That said, I'd rather be on the ship than in Chicago this morning. It's 12 degrees! Brrrrrrrrrrrr!

On our 5 previous cruises we have been able to dock all times. We however did not get off the ship for one day at CC because it was pouring. Not just sprinkles but buckets! Hardly any passengers left the ship that day and the ones that did even though they had ponchos and umbrellas still returned soaked.

I'm right there with you! Our first cruise is in May too and we would be so sad if we don't get to experience CC. I completely understand that things happen and I'm sure the captin does all he can but I would be so disappointed.
Praying for good weather! :goodvibes:boat:

Our first two cruise, DW didn't get to go on CC. But when she did.....she enjoyed it.

Also Nassau is WONDERFUL. We chose our specific next cruise because it goes to Nassau, andboth our cruises in 2013 had been there. Clearly it offers a lot or the cruises would stop going there.

I'm glad you enjoy going to Nassau, but I strongly disagree that Disney goes there because people want to visit. Take a look at a map and figure out where a 3 night cruise from Port Canaveral could stop at and still have time to visit Castaway Cay. You're left with Freeport and Nassau, and the latter is the less bad one.

Sorry, but I regretfully strongly disagree with you back. I got a VERY port intensive survey when a few weeks after completed my cruise, quite a bit of it was asking how I rated Nassau, how I rated my excursion, if I would go back on a future cruise, and what other ports I was interested in. We had the opportunity to cruise the week before our upcoming May Magic and get a Double Castaway Dip instead of Nassau. Our whole family opted for the week that included Nassau instead. The first thing mom asked was "Does it go back to Blue Lagoon?" So I stand on the fact that DCL was VERY interested in whether I enjoyed Nassau as a port and how it would reflect on future cruises. It took me about 30 min or more to complete the survey, so it was fairly extensive. I had to give Nassau glowing reviews. I went twice last year and can't wait to go back in 6 weeks. As a side note, I also have seen great reviews for excursions in Freeport as well. Point blank, if the cruises to Nassau weren't selling so well, they would stop going there. Our cruise is still at top dollar, highest it has ever been, so clearly its been selling well. Between wonderful snorkel excursions, Blue Lagoon and Atlantis animal encounters, lots of seafairing excursions, there is as much to do at Nassau as any Caribbean or Bahamian or even Mexican port that I have been too.

:sad2: <---me shaking my head in disagreement....

I've been told this was a "Feisty" comment. So I apologize for its feistiness! :)

Soooo you like Nassau? :-)

I'd rather have a sea day than to dock and have to look at Nassau. I have been there 3 times and it never got any better. Mostly shorter and cheaper cruises go there. Can't get very far on 3 & 4 night cruises from Port Canaveral so of course they go to Nasty Nassau.

We do the 4 night nassau cruises on DCL because of cost and we live the 4 night, we will never get off there again.. Did not enjoy it and in MY opinion a dump.. We will enjoy the ship and wait for CC day:)

Stepped off the Wonder 4-day this morning. We had a great time, but there was a huge disappointment...our Castaway Cay day was scrapped. After about 3 attempts to dock, they determined the water was too choppy and dangerous, so the ship bailed out and headed straight to Nassau. Nooooooooooo! We had no interest in Nassau, so it turned into 2 days of staying onboard. What a letdown! Of course everyone made the best of it, but still a downer.

We heard this was the first time this had ever happened. I can't imagine how that could be, maybe they just meant for the Wonder, or just that captain.

So, yeah, we've already booked our next attempt.

My wife and I had this happen to us while on the Wonder's first WB Panama Canal cruise. The wind was blasting us directly against the side of the ship as it was attempting to back up to the pier. You could easily see the ship moving sideways while looking at the CC shore.

Of our five DCL trips this was the only time we missed CC.

We missed CC October 2011. Disappointed but we made it two weeks ago!
Fabulous day!!:thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure you are in the minority about Nassau. We've done 14 DCL cruises and nearly everyone we have talked to would skip Nassau . We've had a few safety issues, one cruise my wife and oldest daughter were caught in the middle of a bank roberry near the jewelry stores, another time my youngest daughter was brought to tears from the harassment of the hair braiders grabbing her hair. The last straw for my wife was when my oldest was getting inappropriate remarks from a guy just outside the terminal.

I was on this cruise, we had a cabana booked at the old rate so we were really disappointed to miss that, as I think the new rate is past my value point.

I was up on deck 10 about 8:00 and we were just sitting outside the dock at Castaway Cay going nowhere and the cross current was pretty strong, just knew we would not make it.

The Wonder headed to Nassau and docked about 1:00 Thursday and stayed there till 3:00 on Friday. We did not get off the ship till Friday. I guess the staff enjoyed being able to get off the ship at night, but it was not something we would have done.

That was the second time I have missed docking at Castaway Cay, the first time they were able to rearrange the sea day and Castaway Cay so we got in a day later , but this cruise had no sea days and the Fantasy was going to be there on Friday so no luck this time.
