What is your favorite thing to do on Castaway Cay? I have heard that the snorkeling is not very good. I need info on what's fun and what's not.:pinkbounc

When we went we rented the round inner tube. It worked out very well because it is clear and you can see under the water (just like wearing a mask but you don't have to put your head under water). I wear glasses so I was finally able to see under water. I just floated around and my son tried to catch the fish. We got off the ship as soon as they let us and was in the water the whole time except to go and eat. Some people sat on the beach, some snorkled, they have a kids play area, they have a dj playing around where you eat lunch and they also have a place out in the water where the kids could jump off of. I did the snorkeling but I did not think it was the best thing. I never did find Mickey under water. My son and I felt the best thing about the entire cruise was Castaway Cay.

I really LOVED the snorkeling. We got off the Ship right after we were given the "all clear" and were in the water within 1/2 an hour. The water was nice and clear and we were able to see a lot of fish. We also saw a huge sea turtle. I think if you go snorkeling early before everyone stirs up the water you see a lot more. We also found Mickey. You can also rent bikes, do the banana boat, parasail, sailboat, hydrobike, float, or just hang out.

Bikes: , it takes about 1/2 hour to do the round trip, and make sure you check out the observation post at the end.

Kayaks: an excellent fun workout

Dh and dd(10) parasailed together ($70pp) and absolutely loved it. Dh had done it years ago alone, but prefers going with someone....real bonding time, able to point things out to each other, etc. Then dd and I banana boated ($14pp) That was the most fun thing in my book! We never laughed so hard! We snorkeled, which we all enjoyed, but I didn't get in until the afternoon, and even though I loved it, I heard that it was much nicer in the morning before all the sand was stirred up.

Is the parasailing something you need to pre-book early? Do you know what the age minimum is on that? And you say 2 can do it together? Where do you start and how long does it take? Sorry so many questions, but it sounds fun!

I agree that the snorkelling was great, but definitely needs to be done early while the water is still calm.

Although I believe they do accept reservations for parasailing, there was a small booth set up where you could book just after you got off the ship. There weren't too many people doing it the day we were there, so there was no problem just signing up right at that point.

Younger kids really enjoy the "Whale Dig", where they can dig in the sand and find whale bones, etc. It's done with the counselors from the onboard club/lab.

I enjoyed just walking all over the island, which in itself could occupy most of the day, if you were real adventurous! Or you can rent bikes to tour the island on.

The food was great and the music made the atmosphere perfect -
all in all, CC is a great day!!

We rented one of the round tubes and one of the flat floaties. We used both. The kids like hanging on the flat float and kicking themselves around together. I actually enjoyed sitting on the round on on the beach. Made for a comfy beach chair. And we used the flat one as a picnic blanket for me and my daughter to eat our lunch at.

I couldn't find the "free" sand toys someone on the board wrote about. I ended up purchasing the sand toys that came in the backpack. Almost half the price of the bigger set and the backpack made it easy to carry home.

We didn't get off the boat until around 12 and had no problem piecing together 3 lounge chairs and a sit down chair right by the water. I was actually amazed and a little saddened at how many people had the umbrellas and hammocks reserved with their stuff but how little they were actually used. I didn't mind though. It was the only pure sunshine day we had--so I wanted to soad some of it up. I did feel bad for the people with really little ones who needed to nap. Some were wrapped in towels to protect them from the sun. One more amusing observation. As the sun moved, those with umbrellas soon became those without. LOL!!

We love the beach. It had such fine sand. The water was slightly colder than I wanted on the 2/23rd sailing.

Have fun.

There is a minimum weight of 80 lbs, I believe...someone correct me if I'm wrong. But that is if the person is going solo. I honestly don't know what the max is for 2 people....lets see...dh is 180 and dd is 95.....but they were never weighed. They were strapped into a "diaper" with dd connected in front of dh, not side by side as I've seen elsewhere. A few hints......take a camera up with you and give a camera to someone on the boat to take pics of you while you are up. If someone on the ground wants to watch you, they will only see you from on the cruise ship, deck 10. Another hint.....ask to get your toes wet, and after you have been up a while, they will slowly let you down until your feet are in, then back up in the air! My dh had an 11:30 reservation, along with about 5 others, and was back for lunch about 12:30.........
