Cast members?

Okay, this is a kinda embarrassing question, but I'm wondering who qualifies as a 'cast member'.
I always thought they were the characters and actors (in the shows and parades, etc) but now that I'm reading about pins I see pictures of the characters and they're not wearing lanyards, so...
Who is it that does wear them and is available to trade with?

Anyone who is employed by Disney is called a cast member. Depending on their role they may or may not be wearing pins to trade.

So, "cast member" is just a friendly phrase for employee. Cool.

Exactly! There are many Cast Members who don't even work near the parks or with guests too.
