Cast members lying to your face

I know that the plural of anecdote is not data, but this seems strange to me.

True, but this independent account lends to the OP's story nonetheless. I've encountered some very evasive CM's in the past when it comes to answering questions they don't want to. "Trust, then verify" is the name of the game.

I would encourage the OP to contact Guest Services with her complaint. Any specific information (e.g. date, time, location, CM name or description, specific complaint, etc.) will be helpful. Leave the emotions out to keep things clear and easy to understand. Someone should respond within a few days. Our experience has been that Disney really does want to hear about these things so that things can be improved. If this CM has been causing trouble for other guests (either as a result of bad attitude or plain cluelessness), then it would be very helpful if his supervisors were notified.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple months ago. I asked the same question and was given the same answer only to see the same CM with the same sign. It was very aggravating and confusing. Just like the OP said, he wasn't confused, he was intentionally misleading. Not sure this was the same CM but it's my impression that this is the same response they are required to give this question. It just seems there should be a better way to deal with this and keep with their generally exceptional customer service.

That really does make for very bad show. :(

Sounds like they need a new approach to this.

I was at the gates of DCA 2 hours before scheduled opening time yesterday (non EMH day) This was my first time at DCA since carsland had opened and I wanted to be organised and know where everything was so I knew where I needed to be and at what times. I followed the wide right technique and at rope drop was the furtherest person to the right as humanly possible ( I also ended up being first on the ride, but a post about that will come later on an appropriate thread) When you are held at rope drop you have two options. 1. Go to the fastpass line which is roped off and STARTS just beyond of where rope drop is held. If you want to go straight to the fastpass line, stay on the LEFT hand side as this is where the roped off line will be. 2. Go straight on the ride. When the cast member told you to line up at rope drop he wasn't lying directly to your face. He was telling you where you needed to go to be able to join the fastpass line. You cannot get to the fastpass line without going through rope drop.

I know in the past the line began at Carthay, but on this day that was not the case, I don't know if is like that on any other days. It appears that they're may have just been a lack of communication.

I agree with this because the line starts past the rope drop down at It's Tough To Be a Bug only AFTER the park opens. The line does not start at Carthay. Now once the park opens and the rope drops, the number of people getting in line before you controls where you will actually end up and if you will have to backtrack. I know there are CM's that need more training or don't give clear information but I just don't understand what the motive to be to lie or intentionally mislead- what could they possibly gain?

Nope.....on Thursday, May 8th, the fast pass line started right at the Carthay Circle Restaurant, which was definitely behind the rope. The same cast member that told me that they don't do the fast pass line, was the one holding the sign that said "RSR Fast Pass line". I didn't ask for the RSR line, I specifically asked him where the FastPass line would be. Also, the fast passes were gone by noon on that day, because I saw guests walking by the fast pass area and were told they were already gone for the day. I was there with my just turned 6 year old (it was his birthday that day) and my Mom, and I didn't want to do the run to the ride right after opening, that's why I opted for the fastpass line, and told them I would get the fastpasses while my Mom took my son to meet Mickey and not have to be part of the mass behind the rope.
I know this guy fed misinformation to multiple people because once we were in the actual fastpass line, we were talking about it, and we were all upset about it.
For those wondering if it was the same guy they had a bad experience with, he was a follically challenged, Caucasian male, on the heavier side who didn't seem to be a happy fellow.
Yes, I am planning to write to guest services. In hind-sight I should have gone to guest services that same day, but we had too many things to do, and my son would have whined about standing in line and that he was bored, so I figured I would just write a letter after we got back.

Also, there is no point of arguing about this. I know what I asked, I know what I was told, I know where the line ending up being, No, I was not confused, and yes, I 100% feel that I was lied to, so from my experience, I am not happy about it, and I will address it to Guest Services.

I know there are a lot of people who feel that Disney can do no wrong, and this one cast member is probably an exception to the norm, but I will still address it.

This whole A&E thing is getting crazy......
They should just have 2 more actors play them at another M&G somewhere else in the park.

Crazy

Crazy

I think I'll just buy a platinum blonde wig, braid it, wear a blue dress, and tell my kids that I'm Elsa.

I already look a lot like Ana, with the long strawberry blonde hair, so I'll just get a Nordic style dress, braid my hair, and Voila....I'm Anna.

There is no way I am standing in a 2-4 hour line. My son wouldn't even wait 20 minutes to meet Captain America last week!

Is it the same 2 girls who "play" Anna and Elsa all day?! I could imagine how exhausting that could be!

When we were there last week, we didn't even get close to where they were, and we didn't even ride one single ride in Fantasy land over the 2 days we were there, it was way too crazy there!

Love this Holly!!!!:rotfl2: And I very much sympathize with your frustration of what you were told about the RSR fast pass line!!!

Might be I could pay a few ladies to dress up like them and charge admission ???

Or would that be too pimp like?

How can you know what you asked and what you were told when we can never really know anything? What is reality? What is truth? Given that we are probably all just bits in a computer simulation, this may have been little more than a glitch or an unfriendly hack.

Or, I guess it is also possible that some people will do what they can to make excuses for the Walt Disney Company.

Who is arguing? All I see are people providing possible explanations for what may have happened. Why post at all if you're right and everyone else with an opinion is wrong?

I'm sorry to rip this thread back open, but I had an experience this weekend being misled by a CM with similar circumstances.

After the Soundsational Parade, my wife and daughter went to go ride Indiana Jones with a FP. I decided I wanted to take my 2 year old son and 3 year old daughter on the Disneyland Railroad. I walked up the stairs and was met by a CM who said the ride was temporarily closed. They they said they did not know when it was going to open and to check back later. Standard Disney CM language... I was disappointed, but understanding.

Since it was late in the day and the kids were in that crazy tired mode where they run around in circles until they bump into something, I decided to just take a seat at the top of the stairs. After a few minutes, the crowd dispersed from the main gate area and lo and behold the Disneyland Railroad magically re-opened.

I obviously put it all together and concluded that they probably "temporarily close" the railroad after the parade to thin out the crowd near the front. I get it, but they still kinda lied when they played dumb about when it was going to open back up. They knew it's going to open back up in a few minutes, yet they told us they didn't know and to check back later.

My point here is that lying and deliberate deception happens frequently at Disneyland from the CM's. There's no sinister intent though. I definitely understand the frustration with this, but considering all the facts I never can figure out where to aim my frustration. The CM has to feel like they have to lie because they are essentially being directed to and the policymakers probably are handcuffed because they are trying to keep large crowds for forming unnecessarily. Basically, take whatever you are being told with a grain of salt.

I agree 100%...I always figure that CMs know significantly more than they let us believe. While we waited to meet Sully this weekend at DCA the photo CM came up and was clearly getting ready for his arrival. I asked where should be line up when it's time and she said that they would not be forming a line at this time. I told her I knew that but I just wanted to know where I should go, when it gets closer to the time. She then claimed to not know where the line would begin, as its not up to her. I asked her "typically where do you think people start the line? We've been trying to meet Sully for three years and just want to ensure that we see him (we were turned away once that day by a rude CM)." She wasn't giving up the info that she obviously knew. She was starting to look uncomfortable and I was starting to feel angry so I dropped it. I didn't want to argue with her. Not even 5 minutes later she announces where the line will begin. 10 people who arrived after us all rushed ahead of us (not really a big deal), but I said to the CM "see, I just wanted to avoid the rush". She wouldn't answer me! I felt (and this goes for all of these type of scenarios at Disney) that a simple "we aren't allowed to give out that information at this time" would suffice. I would not be upset if they said stuff like that because I understand what they have to do. I always try not to get angry at the CM though, as they don't make the rules. They are just trying to do their job. Easy to do in DL, where I think CMs are nicer. In DCA they are a little rude to begin with, so that understanding is a little harder to come by!!

You should call guest services and tell them about your experience. For the money you have pay to go to the parks, blatant lies should not be accepted. Disneyland needs to remove its head from its rear and tell people the truth. Nothing worse than someone looking you in the eye and giving you a line of bs. I feel for the CM who have to come to work and lie to people. Im sure many of them don't like being put in that position. I won't hold my breath and wait for any changes though. Disney will keep feeding people this bs until it hurts there bottom line.

I think I might email guest services, good suggestion. Not so much to get the CM in trouble, because I don't want that, but more as a general "Hey, I don't like this". I'm sure it will go nowhere but it never hurts to try!
