Cast members lying to your face

You should even if nothing ever comes of it. It always makes me feel better to let people about things like this. If enough people complain, Disneyland might start to worry about their profit margin and do something about it.

My point here is that lying and deliberate deception happens frequently at Disneyland from the CM's. There's no sinister intent though. I definitely understand the frustration with this, but considering all the facts I never can figure out where to aim my frustration. The CM has to feel like they have to lie because they are essentially being directed to and the policymakers probably are handcuffed because they are trying to keep large crowds for forming unnecessarily. Basically, take whatever you are being told with a grain of salt.

I agree 100%...I always figure that CMs know significantly more than they let us believe. While we waited to meet Sully this weekend at DCA the photo CM came up and was clearly getting ready for his arrival. I asked where should be line up when it's time and she said that they would not be forming a line at this time. I told her I knew that but I just wanted to know where I should go, when it gets closer to the time. She then claimed to not know where the line would begin, as its not up to her. I asked her "typically where do you think people start the line? We've been trying to meet Sully for three years and just want to ensure that we see him (we were turned away once that day by a rude CM)." She wasn't giving up the info that she obviously knew. She was starting to look uncomfortable and I was starting to feel angry so I dropped it. I didn't want to argue with her. Not even 5 minutes later she announces where the line will begin. 10 people who arrived after us all rushed ahead of us (not really a big deal), but I said to the CM "see, I just wanted to avoid the rush". She wouldn't answer me! I felt (and this goes for all of these type of scenarios at Disney) that a simple "we aren't allowed to give out that information at this time" would suffice. I would not be upset if they said stuff like that because I understand what they have to do. I always try not to get angry at the CM though, as they don't make the rules. They are just trying to do their job. Easy to do in DL, where I think CMs are nicer. In DCA they are a little rude to begin with, so that understanding is a little harder to come by!![/QUOTE]

Exactly. Nice to know I'm not crazy with my original complaint. Many of us with little kids in tow just try to get some information, so we can avoid a big rush of people trying to get in the front of the line, not caring if they smoosh little kids. I just wanted to know where I should go to avoid that, and was lied to, and that just made me mad. I do understand that the CM's are put in a position they might not like, but the paying guests also do not want to be lied to. They need to come up with a better solution.

They are definitely misleading comments. It would be so much better if they simply said something like, "We aren't allowed to start forming the line right now, but, when we are, I will be holding up a sign and the line will form over there." I think that most people will understand that. Your experience with Sully could have been very different if the CM had just given you the information. It angers me that you were there first and yet were crowded out by others. Clearly the CM knew what you were wanting and it would have been so easy once Sully came out that the line began to form to motion to you to come up in front. It is the little things that can make an experience memorable. You would be telling us about the great CM who helped you see Sully instead of saying how you were lied to.

It angers me that you were there first and yet were crowded out by others....

But I think THIS is exactly the problem. The previous poster was not first as there was no line yet. Disney guests will form a line waiting for a line. I have seen it. Over and over and over. It's an amazing thing that boggles the mind actually. No one could be first if there is no line. Over zealous guests have made it such that Cast Members cannot tell us everything they know because we (guests) do things to actually defeat what they are trying to do. So, yes, I believe sometimes they withhold info from us. I would not call it "lying" if it's to accomplish the job appropriately. Someone cannot be first in line for a line that has no yet formed.

They need to come up with a better solution.

I'm not sure there is a better solution. It sounds like many people in this thread could handle the truth, but there are far too many that can't. If a CM says something like, "we can't give out that information", they will be relentlessly badgered.

^^^Yeah...you're right. It's just a no-win situation. I guess the best thing to do is just be happy we're fortunate enough to be able to visit Disneyland.

First World problems, right?

I think we lose track of these things, and get upset when things don't always work out the way we want them to.

Being misled, is not the end of the world. Just a fact of life anywhere you go.

However, knowing that certain things attract a large amount of people, why don't they just allow a line to form in a designated area? It has been done in the past, and it seemed to work. So why change? :confused3

Great perspective on it!! Things could be much worse!!

Also, there is no point of arguing about this. I know what I asked, I know what I was told, I know where the line ending up being, No, I was not confused, and yes, I 100% feel that I was lied to, so from my experience, I am not happy about it, and I will address it to Guest Services.

And how do we know you aren't lying?
