Cast members kick you out?

Hi there,
After reading a previous post concerning the Castle Goodnight Kiss thing, I wondered about the policy for two things:
Firstly on an ordinary night people seem to wend their way towards the exits slowly, by the time I leave there are still lots of people in shops etc, do cast members hurry them out at some point? I lost my friends in Epcot once and didn't know where my villa was so I was there quite late and even then they didn't say anything to me!

Secondly, if they are putting extra magic hours in the evening, how do they differentiate between on site people and "normal" people when they going on rides? Do they make an annoucement for people to leave or something?

Thanks
Chris

I was "hurried" by a CM in a very polite way.

We were waiting for the people to clear out before taking a picture in front of the castle and a CM approached us and asked me whether I want her to take a picture of us.

She can see it clearly that I have my tripod for me, so it can only mean that she's "hurrying" us to leave the premise.

Very polite, very subtle.

I was talking to a CM in a store and he was telling me how he had been working to midnight, 1 in the morning and I asked why since the parks were closing at 9:30. He told me the stores have to stay open until the last person leaves the store so if someone was shopping for hours, they stayed there and waited.

When we were there in Feb, the park closed at 8:00pm. We hung around and waited for everyone else to leave, then started walking slowly through the shops. By this time it was about 9:30, and they were starting to close the doors of the shops. If you were inside the shop then you could still shop around, but if you were outside, then you don't get in.

So we hung around some more. Never in that time did we see a CM rushing people out. We still saw people just sitting around the hub too.

I think when the sweepers start to come out, it's time to go!:teeth:

Sweepers, watch out for one of those things you might get sucked up, lol! I keep threatening my boys that I am going to borrow one from Disney and use it in their room!

For the extra hours they will be giving out wrist bands for Disney resort guests to wear. This is the same thing they do on E-nights. I have seen non-Disney resort customers try to get on rides once E-night starts and they were turned away because they were not wearing the wrist band.

After park close one night, I was looking for the rest of my party and was greeted by two CMs at the entrance of Tomorrowland who kindly told me the area had been cleared out.
Also, with E-nights and parties, guests are given wrist bands. Those who try to board the rides without a wrist band are basically told in a nice way that the park is open only to those wearing one and the park is closed otherwise.

I thought AK would be a great place to wander around in after closing. So about 1/2 hour after closing time, I started wandering along Discovery Island Trails. Suddenly a CM appeared walking in the opposite direction on the path, and just as quickly she turned and walked away. A few minutes later, a Disney "suit" appeared, blocking my path so I had to turn around and go back. And he kept advancing slowly, sort of herding me out of the path. Rats-spoil sport!

I just think its kinda funny that such a customer friendly place has to tell people they have to go when they don't like upsetting people :) Lets be honest we try and get our moneys worth but by the time night comes if you have been there all day you are tired and so are the staff. I just like to push it :P

While in college, I worked retail. Not at Disney. In a mall. I would detest the people that would come into the store and stay after they knew it was closed. I would be going on 10 hours of work, for a very low wage. We weren't allowed to ask them to leave. We had to smile and make it seem like it was ok that they were there after closing. All the while, I was thinking, why are you being so rude?

I would never make a retail person stay after hours. Although it has been a long time since I worked that job, I will never forget the feeling of being stuck after hours.

I remember as a CM in a disney store in college we could not even lower the gates as long as a customer was in the store. Whereas most stores started lowering their gates at 5 or 10 minutes to closing.

Sometimes this only invited people to come in. I must admit I used to get a little miffed because I would be ready to tackle plush mountain and go home. But that's all apart of the Disney magic:D

It was one of the best jobs I ever had.

This reminded me of awhile back before our Disney Store closed that my 6 yr old and I went in about 10 minutes before closing. As usual, she headed straight for the stuffed animals. I glanced back there and saw that they were all perfectly straight and an employee was standing there trying hard not scream - not literally, she was actually very nice. I looked at my daughter and said, "Don't even think about it!" The employee laughed and asked my daughter which one she wanted to play with and handed it to her. I sure do miss our store!!

As a past retail worker I sympathize with some of the other posters.... I know that many people want to get every last dime out of their visit, but be considerate.... it really is hard to be polite when people overstay their welcome!!
Kudos to everyone at the world for doing such a great job at keeping the magic spirit alive, even when they probably want to glare at anyone that even looks in the window!

Ok, I'm donning my flame suit for this one...but I'm the type of person who will *not* hang out past park closing more than 30 minutes. Just like a regular desk job, I'm sure those cast members want to get home and get to bed!

You mean the "Kiss Goodnight" from the castle is really a gentle but booming reminder to "Get out! Get out!"?

(One night last November I hung around specifically to see/hear Kiss Goodnight and it happened twice. No one bothered me. Some folks on this forum have said it does not happen every night.)

I can see how it would be frustrating to have to stay at work so people can browse. I think I would only stop in a store if I knew I needed something and was going to buy. On our last trip, we watched Illuminations several times and we always found ourselves rushing to leave, but one night we just mosey'd out and enjoyed the scenery. It was nicer when we didn't rush.

Kiss Goodnight - have I missed this? I thought the castle just changed colors, and that was it? What am I in store for?

I've been working retail part-time at a certain Bath and Body store for about five years, and I can say WE DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE WALKING IN LAST MINUTE!
Come on people, you know the closing time and you have all day to shop, whether it is the mall or Disney World! And don't try to sneak in the store after close if a gate or door is not closed all the way, especially on Christmas Eve. We know every year what day Christmas falls on, so you have more than enough time to prepare.
This also goes for restaurants. I will not dare walk in within 45 minutes of closing.
Sorry to go off topic a bit, but I was highly inspired by some of the other posters. I feel so much better!

This is a great thread! The park greeters that you see out front have to have someone there until the VERY LAST guest leaves the park (Same with Guest Relations). When we're scheduled to close we are there at least 2 1/2 hours after park closing. That's how long it takes to completly clear the park! I don't understand why people want to just sit around for an extra 2 hours. There isn't anything to do! On nights like the parties (Very Merry and Not so Scary) we are scheduled until 2:30!

I would never stay later than normal. Once the crowds start to leave and I look at my watch and go "Oh hey, the parks closed!" I leave. Its just a polite thing to do I think. I now get those fun E-bands. :)

I would make some distinction between WDW shops and retail stores in shopping centers across America. For some, WDW is a once in a lifetime experience(although you wouldn't know that from the posts around here;) ) I think WDW tries to make the experience as special as they can, not to mention they want to earn every last penny out of their guests:D There's a difference between these stores, many of which feature unique products, and those stores that are in every city in the U.S.

For me, I struggle to stay awake past dinner, much less 45 minutes after park closing;)
