Cast Member Discount

Not a CM. The CM Discount used to be 25%. Last posts I saw indicate that it's down to either 15% or 20%.

DVC places restrictions (or at least use to) on points purchased with the CM discount. That restriction is you can't sell to anyone other than Disney.

Wasn't there also something about no renting out points, too?

Not sure. I never kept up with all of the various posts on the discount. I know about the sale restriction from my guide. She purchased some of her points with the discount.

Disney threatened to terminate employment of CMs renting points purchased with the discount.

The current CM discount is reportedly 20% off the base price. No extra incentives.

At a time DVC did have an additional clause in the CM discount purchases giving them the right to buy-back at the original price if the CM ever sold. Folks who bought recently claim that the clause no longer exists, but they could simply be missing it in the paperwork. :confused3

But it does seem like an unnecessary clause these days since price inflation doesn't exist in the manner it did 5+ years ago.

This is a potentially dangerous situation for cast members to get into. You're basically signing a contract that says you will pay X amount of dollars in annual maintenance fees with no way of renting to mitigate those costs in event of financial hardship or lack of desire to vacation at Disney that year. That's troubling.

Disney's position has always been that DVC points should be purchased for "personal use" with no guarantee of rental income. The banking / borrowing features add flexibility for those who do not wish to visit annually and selling is an option for those experiencing financial hardship.

And there is no obligation to take them up on the added CM discount. Those who aren't comfortable with the added rental restriction could purchase at the prevailing price.
