Cast Member discount question

Hi - Newbie here. I've searched for this answer and didn't find anything, but sorry if this is a repeat.

A few days ago I booked 9 nights - 5 at YC and then 4 at GF. Both lowest tier rooms. I have a Cast Member friend that we booked through for the 40% discount, and that 40% is based off of the current non-special rates that you currently see on the disney site (We're checking in Apr 14 and the specials are only announced through the 13th). So, when the rooms go on sale to the GP, does anyone know if I need to get my CM discounted room lowered, or is it always going to be 40% off of the price that's online now? I don't want to bother my CM friend again unless it's definitely going to save money.

My guess would be that it won't be 40% off of the special rate, but that the base rate may fluctuate downward some and provide some relief, but I don't know for sure. We're booked at a high enough rate that I wouldn't be surprised if there are rates available eventually to the GP that are lower than what I'm locked in at (about 320 for YC and just under 400 for GF). If that's the case, I'll just re-book obviously when those specials get announced.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Matthew

The friends and family rate is always a percentage off rack rate. 40% off rack is a very good discount that is not ever offered to the GP anymore. The rate your discount is based on will not change. Sometimes they will offer the DP for and add on at a slightly reduced rate.

Your friend will have to go to each resort before your check in and show cast id for you to be able to check in.

Just sharing this but have your CM friend keep checking because we were able to score a 60% CM discount for Christmas week at the BC CL with dining for about 2500

That rate is supposed to only be if the CM is staying in the room as well.

Thats kinda a given for any CM room discount you get

That's not completely accurate. A CM can book a room under the Friends and Family discount, which is usually 40% off, and they do not have to stay in the room. Since the OP has a 40% off discount I am pretty sure they are booked under the Friends and Family discount. In order to get a 60% off discount then yes, the CM has to book and be the one checking in at the resort.

Yes, I should have made that clear - I did book this under a friends and family discount which is 40%, and no the CM will not be staying with us (I believe it's a bigger discount when the CM is staying with you). This particular CM actually works for ESPN in Connecticut, and those CM's don't even need to visit the hotel - they just call in to confirm the reservation 10 days prior to checkin.

Thanks for the help everyone - appreciate the info!
