My wife and I were discussing our upcoming trip over lunch today. In an effort to avoid bag check and travel as light as possible, we were considering going with just our magic bands with a linked credit card and our phones. No cash, no wallet.

The only chink I see in this armor is needing an ID for alcohol purchases. What am I missing?? Can it be done? Any attractions, shops etc... that don't except the magical Disney band wave?

I'd not go with a backup method of payment. There are just too many glitches in the system (still).

I had to still carry around my wallet, since if they ask for my id to drink anything. I really wish they could add the feature into the magic band sicne they keep track of everything else.

Good question!

I will also need to carry my DVC Member card...but other than that????

What if your magic band has a glitch, the first thing they will ask for is ID.

What if the system goes down and they can't process room charges through the band? You have no cash or credit card for backup.

What if you were injured or sick and had to go to the hospital, where are your insurance cards?

I hate carrying a purse or anything else that doesn't fit into my pocket in the parks, so I wear pants or shorts that can fit my ID and my debit card. We had Keys to the Kingdom cards in Nov as backup to the Magic Bands, so I carried those as well. We never needed them. Between the 5 of us, one of our bands worked at all times.

I never go anywhere without at least my ID and Debit card.

I wouldn't go without at least a bit of cash. There's always a chance that the computers will go down rendering your MB unusable.

Lots of the little kiosks are cash only, but you don't have to use them, and they are mainly for snacks or souvenirs that are available at the shops anyway.

You could accomplish the same thing with a card in a lanyard, and if you need your ID for adult beverages that might be more convenient.

More than once I have gone to buy something at one of the kiosks and was informed they were only doing cash transactions. So it is always wise to carry a bit of cash on you.

If the MB's work right, you *should* not need anything else. But to be on the safe side, I always bring a credit card, photo ID, and a small amount of cash with me. I still don't use a wallet. All these things fit neatly inside my zipped up cargo shorts front pocket. This poses no problem going through the "bag free" lines outside the parks.

Definitely take a backup card with you. We didn't our first day,and thank goodness we had a little cash on us, because when we scanned our bands to pay the top on our first meal of the trip the server came back and said we were past our limit. Talk about embarrassing! We found out the cm that activated our bands had the limit set a zero! Make sure that doesn't happen to you!

I took a wristlet and had it in my pocket. I would feel weird not having any ID or backup way to pay.

I agree that at a minimum I would carry an ID, a credit card, and a little cash. I have actually been in a store, when the Disney internal system was not working so they could only use credit cards or cash (no room charging).

Likewise, if you do opt to take a taxi anywhere, they do not take magic bands. In addition to some of the kiosks, the only other thing that I can readily think of that is cash only are the penny press machines.

Thanks guys. You all have given me something to think about. Now I get to go shop for a device to hold a couple cards and a little cash without lugging my whole wallet. You guys are awesome.

DH wears cargo shorts with pockets that snap, button, or zip to put stuff in. We always have some cash in our pockets and a cc. I guess I've never taken my ID to the parks, though- I leave it back in the room. I don't buy alcohol and have never needed it in the parks.

Perhaps is slightly circular, but I have to show ID whenever I've used a credit card in the parks. I've also needed to show ID when getting an AP discount on items. I have also needed an ID whenever I was picking up something from will call (tickets).

The only places I know of that are cash only are the moving carts (like during parades). We never carry cash ~ but do have credit cards and usually ID.

DH had to show ID almost every day because his MB frequently didn't work for access to the parks. We also needed ID for passholder discounts when shopping.

Some stores in Animal Kingdom do not accept the magicband or disney gift cards as payment, like Yak and Yeti's store, so its good to have back up.
