Cashless Payment at Resort Front Desk?

I should know the answer to this, but can I use a Disney Gift Card that is stored in my Apple Wallet to pay room charges at the front desk of my resort? In the past, I have always used my magic band throughout the day and I kept my gift card in the hotel safe. When I got back, I'd go to the room, retrieve the card and swing by the desk to pay down the day's charges. Now that I have a card stored in my Apple Wallet, I figured it would be much simpler just to transfer the funds to that card (once the balance is below $1000), but if the front desk has to "swipe" the actual card and cannot accept the "tap" function, my plan wouldn't work.

If you pull it up on your phone does it have a scannable bar code?

It’s been years since I encountered a POS at Disney that didn’t accept NFC but I’ve never tried resort checkout. They should be able to accept a scannable barcode if you have one on your phone.

No, there's no scannable bar code.

They can "scan" the Magic Band so I know they have the NFC technology, but I don't know if they have the "tap to pay" capability at the front desk. It's such a weird thing to think about and I wouldn't be completely stuck with a digital card because I could always transfer the funds from the digital card back to a physical card.

Yep been there. I get little bonuses from work occasionally in the form of points that I use to buy Disney e-gift cards, and before my trip to Disneyland 2 years ago (where they didn’t then use NFC), I went to Target one day and bought a $5 Disney gift card just to be able to transfer the e-gift cards somewhere.

If you have the card linked to your phone’s wallet, can’t you tap to pay with your phone instead of your magic band when you’re out at the parks?

The Disney Gift card I use/reload in my Apple Wallet has a scannable barcode at the bottom with the EAN listed in small print at the top. I've never seen a Disney Gift Card without the barcode before in the wallet app.

But to answer your question, yes you can use tap to pay at the front desk. I've used my Apple Wallet before that's linked to a CC.

Yes, and I do this most of the time, but when we dine at TS locations, I have the DVC discount so in order to get it applied, we cannot split the check. I pay with my MagicBand and then we split the tab at the end of the day with each of us paying our hotel charges with our gift cards. We could have the server split the payment between our three gift cards, but that is WAY too confusing and can often lead to problems if it is done incorrectly, especially since it is done in the back.

That makes sense.
