I assume no cash is need on board. Are US dollars acceptable currency in St. Maarten and St. Thomas? We are Canadian and will likely bring US dollar travellers cheques. Can we get them cashed easily on board?

only time you may want to use cash on board is for your tips, but other than that you use your key to the world card. Also, you need cash for stamps at castaway cay.

Hi!

U.S. dollars are accepted in St. Maarten and St. Thomas. I would call Disney Cruise Line to find out if they can cash your travelers checks for you.

Have a great trip!

Disney will cash traveler's check on board as well as using them in St. Maarten and St. Thomas. You may use cash for tipping but you can also charge your tips to your KTTW card. You need cash to purchase stamps at Castaway Cay. HTH

i haven't carried travelers cheques in years...
i find them to be the biggest pain in the derriere possible....
i carry cash and plastic....

on board ship we needed single dollars for room service tipping...
we also used cash for our other tips, rather than using the guest services receipts.....i was too lazy to go get them so i just put cash into the envelopes...

as for cashing travelers cheques, you can also do that on the islands also if necessary...

but still i'd rather carry cash.....by the way, there's a safe in the room if you're worried about having cash in your rooms...

Dutch Sint Maarten: the official currency is the Netherlands Antillean Floren, but all merchants with whom you will be dealing will have prices marked in U.S. dollars and will accept your U.S. dollars and give you change in U.S. currency.

French Saint Martin: the official currency is the Euro, but all merchants with whom you will be dealing will have prices marked in U.S. dollars and will accept your U.S. dollars and give you change in U.S. currency.

Ironically, although U.S. dollars are accepted on both sides of St Maarten, the Euro is not accepted on the Dutch side, and the Dutch currency is not accepted on the French side.

St Thomas/St John: the U.S. dollar is the official currency.

Castaway Cay: the post office is the only place where you'll need cash. The Bahamian dollar is kept on par with the U.S. dollar. The post office will accept your U.S. dollars at par and give you change in U.S. currency.

Hool, I would think twice about using US$ travellers cheques, unless you like the 'safety'. In addition to some of the hassle mentioned by disneyholic family, you will pay more in service charges and exchange rates than you have to. If you buy with Visa on the islands, the exchange should be the local currency to the Cdn $, and generally the loonie does better against other currencies than the USD.

It's easy -- and may be cheaper -- to withdraw the US cash you think you'll need at any ATM in the US. And on board, everything, including tips, can be charged to the KTTW card, which in turn is charged against your credit card.

Hool, go for the Safety Factor!

If you are a CAA Member they will not charge you for them and here
I find they are cheaper than at the bank. Don't forget, if you loose cash
it CANNOT be replaced.

Don't we Canucks pay enough for US as it is.

Just my two cents worth.

Remember the ad, you're here, your wallet there!
Been there, Done it! I swear by the TC!
Won't even go to Buffalo now without them!

I'm with scratch42......you just have to go to pursers desk/guest services to cash them in.
