We are just buying into DVC but want to save our points for our vacation in July 2012. We want to pay cash for a 2br unit for a trip at the end of January. Would we call MS or CRO.? Does it really matter? We are not DVC members yet so I can't officially book with MS, if I book with CRO do I lose out on any benefits if we are members by the time of our trip? Can I transfer a reservation made by CRO to MS?

I guess my question is really on a cash purchase who is it better to make the reservation with, CRO or ms, and can MS apply any general public or AP discounts to the reservation?

Buying into DVC is totally confusing and there is so much to learn. Do you ever learn all the ins and outs of it? LOL

No, AP or General discounts cannot be applied to an MS DVC ressie.....there maybe a DVC member discount available ( 25% off rack rates) but often there's a much better discount available being to AP holders.

As to other perks, if you have your blue membercard at the time of your visit you could get things like the dvc dining discounts, or buying dvc discounted AP's.

HTH

Things like pool hopping are not extended to members when they are not staying on a reservation made through MS. So if you aren't a member yet, you can't make a cash reservation through MS. So you can't pool hop.

You reservation made through Disney Reservation Center will give you daily full cleaning. If you made it through MS, you would only get the limited service that members get.

Booking an entire trip on the DVC Member Cash discount is very possibly going to cost you much more than you would pay with something like an AP discount, or promotional booking thru CRO.

The Member cash discount is more designed to help members add on to a points stay if they are short a few days. The 25% off rack rate is nice, but not the best discount that there is out there.

Have you thought about renting points from a member?
