Cash reservation Q's...

Okay, Madam Gracey and I have decided to visit HH on our May '05 trip.
I am not taking any chances with the 7 month window, so I decided a cash back-up would be proper protocol.

I called MS a few minutes ago (had to finish my day by day booking for the cottage at VB), and asked about cash ressies at HH. At that point I was not yet concerned about a member discount, but I just wanted to get things booked.
Anyway, MS told me that it is too early to book HH cash because it was not my home resort! He said I had to wait for the 7 month window!?!? I am not an expert on booking DVC accommodations with cash, but this does not seem right.... Does it???

He went on to say that it was also too early because members must trade out first in order to free up the villas. --True, but... (and perhaps I am confused here), doesn't a member only have to trade out points for any time period during that year? In other words, if I am booking April 30th - May 2nd, wouldn't DVC have 'traded out points' from some point between Jan 1st, and April 29th? --As I said, I may be slightly confused on this one.

Okay, last point of confusion... He also said rack rates for 2005 are not published yet. Is this correct? I thought there was already a thread here about 2005 rack rates??? Perhaps just the on-sites are published?

Well, I cannot speak for HHI, but cash rack rates are out for VB (and are the same as last year as far as I can tell). Also, I was able to reserve rooms for cash before the 7 month window.

I suggest you call MS again, and see if you don't get a different answer. Then again, it may be that since VB also has the Inn portion, that the rules are different there than at HHI.

I believe he is incorrect.

I made ressies almost a year in advance for VB this October.

I don't believe the 7/11 month rules apply to cash reservations.

I was even able to get the member discount when I made my reservation.

I've been trying to book a cash night as well for April 05 and the cash rates are just not out yet. I would think they will be out in a few weeks. I wish there was a pattern for the release, but I think it may vary based on how a given resort is being booked on points. I have booked on cash at greater than the 7 month window, but I'm not sure about at a non-home resort rule. Also, you can check with CRO for a cash rate through them. AP discounts apply to HH and VB as well.

Gotta be wrong... or we broke the "rules" already! I booked a studio and 1br on cash at the DVC discount at BCV... and my home resort is quite postiviely BWV. Did this actually BEFORE the 11mos, if memory serves, but would have to check! In any case -- we have that cash ressie and the papers to show it!
