Cash Price for 1 BR at BCV

Hello all. I am a DVC member and I may be renting some of my points to a relative. They insist that they saw the 1 bedroom suites at BCV avail. on a cash basis for $250 per night last summer/fall. Does this sound reasonable to anyone? Could you please share what cash rates you have heard about?

Thank you.

Connears,
Thanks. Since it is a relative, I was going to let them go for a little less than that. What my question concerned was what could they get a 1 BR at BCV for if they were to go through Disney as a cash customer (not using DVC points). Expedia currently lists the 1 BR for mid-Sept. at $390+tax per night. They believe that they had seen a CASH price of $250 last year for that time. Seemed low to me. Was wondering what people have seen/heard of for cash prices.

Hi JeffreyH,

Are you looking to learn what a 1 BR villa would rent for by renting points from a DVC member, or are you looking for the cash price to book the same room via CRO?

If it's the former, you might take that $10 or $11 Connears mentioned, and then look at the DVC points chart (link above) to calculate how many points you'd need to rent for a particular week. For CRO prices, try calling CRO and getting a quote?

Not sure if that's what you're asking, but HTH!

I had a rate sheet though I don'r see it at the moment. From what I remember (and having to book a cash night) it sounds to me like the cash studio price though not a 1 BR.

It's possible they saw a $250 price last year. After 9/11 the whole industry lost a lot of business and there was some very heavy discounting to get people to travel. Disney was no exception. A lot of that discounting continued throughout 2002.

The question of course is what are current prices. I don't think the discounts are nearly as big as they were last year.

Current RACK rates appear to be $390 to $570 for a BCV 1-B/R unit, depending on season.

You might check out Mousesavers.com to see if they know of any deals currently.

The early December 2002 rate for a BCV studio was $212 plus 11.5% tax. A BCV one bedroom for $250 plus tax during September seems reasonable. A one-bedroom for one week during September uses 200 points.

It is possible that was a code or AP rate from last fall. They were running in the 40% off range then. BCV is close to sellout for DVC members, making less rooms available through CRO, plus discounts aren't as good this year in general except for the fairytale package.

I sense a problem here. If you are willing to rent your points to a relative, decide if you want to treat this as a business situation or a helping family situation. $10 pp is the going rate and if you're just trying to use some points at the same time you help them out, $6-8 pp is a fair price. I'm assuming you already quoted them a price and they're balking at it due to the recollection of one special last year off season at the bottom of the 9/11 aftermath. If this is the case, you're likely much better off not even renting to them as you're asking for trouble.

Specific to your question, I doubt they saw a 1 BR for that price but it's possible. Even if they did I doubt it would have been summer or weekend for that low. The price (whatever it was) would have been plus 11% tax but would have included daily maid service. If they're looking at a long weekend or similar, do them a favor and suggest they do cash and not rent points.

Proceed with caution if I'm picking up the right vibes. I feel you have the potential for a situation where you feel you're helping them out and they feel you're ripping them off.

The official WDW website currently lists a STUDIO at $289 in value season!

Official rack rate for 7/4 to 10/1 is

Studio $289
1 bedroom 390

and it only goes up from there, there are no lower rack rates available, maybe discounted ones, but not rack rates.

Does anyone pay rack rates? They should call and see what the lowest discounted rate available to them is.

There may have been a special rate at the time they are referring to because Disney was giving away rooms last fall.

We stayed at Grand Floridian in December for $189 per night using a code from Mousesavers - now if anyone told me that today, I don't think I would believe it and it certainly would not compare to rack rate! We stayed there a couple of nights before moving over to BWV because when would we ever get to stay at GF for that rate again.

Maybe you can check Mousesavers and see if there are any specials for the September timeframe (this is the slowest time at Disney). That would give you a feel for what people would be paying this September with a discount.
