Ok, so DH wants to go to the Gartner conference that is at WDW every yr..work will pay hotel but we don't want to use pts for this. There is a discount for paying cash as a DVC member I see. But does that have to be in conjunction with a pts stay?
I thought I saw in some previous posts that you have to use regular CRO for the cash portion but MS for the pts part. Is that correct?

oh and does the cash ressies need to be at a DVC resort or can it be at any Disney resort?

DVC members can get a 25% discount off the usual rack rate for a room at DVC resorts - when available. The discount is not always available, but may be reserved without a point based reservation for the same stay.

If you want to stay at a non-DVC resort or want to use another discounted rate (AAA, AP), the reservation will need to be made thru CRO.

Good luck! :)

What your husband likely want to ask his company finance people is what will the reimburse and what documentation will he need. IMO, most companies will only reimburse if you can present them with a bill from an official source that has a $$ amount on it. Apparently some will also pay the per diem rate no matter where you stay or what it does not doesn't cost you. Unfortunately I've not come across the latter. I specifically asked the CFO of the two largest private employers in our area this very question recently. Both said they would NOT reimburse based on the per diem lodging rates without a $$ amount on a receipt to back it up. I was hoping since I work for one of these two companies and I have a meeting in SF this fall with a Marriott rewards reservation AND certificate in hand. But given I have $$ that are use or lose, I'll have to get a cash reservation so it's reimbursable.

I just booked a cash ressie at BCV for next week - yes an actual open studio!! I did it through DVC. I was able to link to my points reservation but I was not asked if I was booked at the resort on points prior to getting the night's reservation.

DVC 25% off was better than AP rate at BC.

Man - he's lucky if he can get the company to reimburse that rate! My max allowable rate for Orlando (state university employee) is $90/nt. for lodging...doesn't even cover a value resort most of the time. (And to Dean's point, neither DH nor I have ever had any employers that will just give you the money instead. My personal favorite was when I said I could stay with a friend for the 4 nights, but would only feel comfortable doing that if I took her to a nice dinner as a thank you...overall saving the company several hundred dollars in lodging. Nope - not if it went over the meal per diem for the day! :sad2:)

Anyways...to the original question, I was told you can get the 25% off rate regardless of whether you are also staying some nights on points or not.

DH's boss goes every year and I think he stays at BC. Dh hasn't bothered to go to this one yet but since I won't be headed to Vegas with him on an annual basis for a different conference (always at Caesars) this is a great alternative. We've got a 3 y/o DD and a DS on the way 8/21.

We had already been thinking about the invoice for pts but figured that would be too confusing to bother with and just suck it up and pay cash. It ends up being a great way to get to WDW twice in a yr and using an AP.

thanks to all for the advice!
