Cash or Travellers Cheques?

The US are slowing phasing in new designed notes I think the $10 and $20 are already in circulation, so it is all ok.

Claire ;)

The new $20 bill has some color, but the brand new $10 looks like you spilled paint on it and the backside is even more colorful. :teeth: It does look funny when you are used to the same color green on all US bills for so many years. On all newer bills, the portrait is about twice the size of all older bills.

This is not Europe, exchange booths in the US give terrible exchange rates for foreign currency. Sad to say, the US is not "user friendly" for foreign visitors like most places in the world. Look into buying USD TCs at your home bank. You will get a better rate.

US tourist businesses are many more times used to accepting TCs than tourist businesses overseas. When I travel international, the only place I even consider converting a TC is usually a full service bank.

The other good way is use an ATM card and use it in a machine on a network affiliated with your home bank, there is a list of them on the back of most cards. You will get the official exchange rate with usually a 2 or 3% fee, a much better rate than you will get ripped for if you try to change pounds in the US.

$10,000 cash and travelers checks combined is the limit to bring into the US. You DO NOT want to go to the hassle of filling out the paperwork to bring in more. Your family might be touring Epcot while you are still at the airport. :teeth:

The limit for leaving is $1, part of our state motto "Keep Florida Green--Come Here and Spend All Your Money". :teeth:

Just kidding, enjoy your visit to our side of the pond.

You do understand this exchange problem is your own fault? If your King George III had had a better army, we would still be using pounds over here. :rotfl2:

Lol about the $1 :teeth:

Oh and just be thankful George III didn't win or you would be part of the EU by now!!

Claire ;)

We normally only take enough cash for the first few days,as another poster said you are only covered up to £250 in cash on your travel insurance & T Chqs can always be replaced! SD :firefight

I have made the huge mistake of changing £800 into dollars already, stupidly didn't give tc a 2nd thought which is unlike me.Must have got over excited at the exchange rate :bitelip:

Guess i will have to hide them around my body while i get to the hotel. :lmao:

May be too political for DIS, but: There are some conspiracy nut jobs over here who claim the US is being secretly taken over by some New World Order run by the UN.

UN or EU, doesn't seem to be a big difference when you are being taken over. :teeth:
