I just got back from a great stay at a 2 bedroom dedicated lake view at BLT. I stayed on point of a friend, and am considering whether to buy my own.

My biggest question relates to the cash only reservations that DVC members can make. I swear that on one of my check-in sheets, I saw something that said approx. $1500 if I'd paid cash only instead of points (for 5 or 6 nights at BLT.) Of course I can't find the paper!

If someone could explain cash reservations, I'd really appreciate it. If those costs mentioned above bear out, I'll skip becoming a member, and just book cash only through my friend on those occasions when she doen't have enough points to rent to me.

Thanks in advance!

If you are a member, then you can book DVC villas, through MS, based on availability, with a 25% discount from the rack rate.

Not sure where the $1500 you saw came from, unless that is the cost of the villa given some of the current discounts that Disney has been offering.

In the past year, you could routinely get BLT for 40 - 45% off as a cash guest. I don't think these type of deals will last but for now, it makes them a good deal for the short term.

However, many of us who bought DVC did so for the long haul as we knew we would be returning for years to come and over the course of 10 - 20 years, DVC's value really begins to shine through, IMO.

The key word on the discounted cash reservations through Member Services is availability. It is not always available. As a member, I'm not even sure what makes it available sometimes and not available other times. And technically, the member must be staying in the discounted room. So you would not be entitled to book a member discounted cash room if you are not the member.

And there are no discounts for non-DVC lodging through MS.

I would strongly suspect that the $1500 you saw on your check-in slip was telling you the room charging limit that deluxe resort guest get..

A 2br LV at BLT, the $1500 is closer to what its going for per night rather then the total length of stay...

I agree, that's the credit limit. I've never seen a room rate on a DVC check-in paper. The room rate for a lake view 2 bedroom at BLT from Oct 1 to Nov 27 is $870 plus tax per night. You might be able to get a discount off that, even with 40% off you are looking at over $500 per night.
