Yeah you basically got it right. He's reserving ruling on the mistrial motion until the verdict, "if we get that far".

If we get that far refers to whether the jury can/will be able to reach a verdict, and not a hung jury.

Yeah that is what I am wondering. He gave a warning about this earlier and we were wondering if he could do that. I think he *could* ... but I don't know, the whole thing is weird.

The judge can rule on a mistrial request up until the time he reveals the verdict. The jury can return with a verdict, the judge can see the verdict, and THEN he can rule on a mistrial request. He said he would reserve ruling until later. The defense has asked for a mistrial, they can't take it back now or say "unless she is found not guilty."
