Casey Anthony Trial Thread #3

How the heck did Casey come up with Zenaida Gonzales as a name? I'd love to know that. I mean, it's not like she chose a common first and last name like "Kate Smith".

I get that Zanny was probably short for Xanax ... but to come up with Zenieda? Unless that's a more common name in Florida? And Gonzales I'd think for hispanic/cuban roots which is heavy in FL.

But still, it's such an unusual name/combination and I'd love to know how she came up with that! Did she have a friend named Zenaida and date some guy with the last name Gonzales, so she put the two together or what!? Kind of an odd choice.

Sorry -- just one thing I'm curious about and don't really have anyone to bounce my crazy ICA thoughts on.

She had filled out a card/app to look at a apartment (Zanny) at Sawgrass (I think that's the place but could be wrong) Casey was there the same day with her BF but didn't have her ID with her so she couldn't take the tour with him. So she stayed in the office when he looked at the apt. It is believed that she found her name at that time.

I am not trying to trivialize any one's opinion. I said I understand where you are coming from. I just see nothing on this thread that ever gives any sort of pass to the defense. Baez is referred to as Bozo. No matter what he says or does, he is stupid. I don't agree with everything he does, but he is trying to do his job. Yet, everything the state does is great. From this, I got the message that, emotionally, people on this thread are so vested in the case against Casey that they will never admit to anything that could point to anything positive presented by the defense.

When I say that I am looking at it from an academic position, I am simply trying to say that I only care about the mechanics of the case. In the end, my opinion on her guilt or innocence means nothing. I am not the one who will be deciding.

Am I interested in the case? Absolutely! I just don't hate anyone over it. Sorry. I realize that it is an unpopular stance. There has not been a single day in the past three years that I haven't had to hear about this case. So, I guess I have been over saturated and just don't care enough to hate anyone.

I will now depart from this thread. While I've been told that other viewpoints are welcome here, when I post something from another viewpoint, I feel like I am very unwelcome. I don't want to rain on any one's parade.

For the record, I do think Casey is guilty.

Baez is just very inexperienced. I think he just took on more than he could really handle. He may very well be caught up with all the media hype, and thinking this is a way to make big money when all is said and done. He has make some very bad mistakes, like this thompson gentleman. I am so glad he did not take the stand because that would have made it really worse. I dont know how Baez will continue in the profession he has chosen. I dont wish the man ill harm. He certainly has to make a living like everyone else. I value your opinion as much as anyone else's. I enjoy talking about the case with everyone. I certainly havent called the man any names that I can remember. I hope I havent. If I have forgive me for doing so. I think so many people are stressed out about all this. This does prove one thing, what one person has done has affected so many people. Even if it just emotionally. So stay here and talk with everyone. Please.

I guess we are not only watching two different trials but we are also reading two different threads.

What I am still trying to determine is if Casey ever used the name Zanny before the Sawgrass episode? I think Cindy said she talked about Zanny in the past but I think Cindy was covering for Casey. I would really love to find out if anyone heard her say the name Zanny or did she just mention a nanny without a name up until Caylee was reported missing?

This is freaky....I think Kurby is controlling dnoyes mind, but instead of that psychic handwriting thing, she's making you type things. :)

How long before/after Caylee's death did the Sawgrass episode?
And, did Casey really think something would've come of Zaneida Gonzales being called in for questioning? Did she think her lie would come true? Seriously!?

I'm sure it was more of a wild goose chase to buy time, but she had to know that nothing would come out of it once Zanaida was found ... except to make herself look like an even bigger liar. Not good for ICA, you know?

The "dissenting" opinions that have been posted have been well-articulated and, for the most part, raise legitimate points. Based on the facts presented up until this point, including the expert opinions by the prosecution witnesses, I would say that the death penalty is going to be a stretch, but I believe she'd be convicted of murder 2 (or the FL equivalent) if the case was to go to the jury today. The evidence has been laid out in such a way that when the dots connected, there is less than reasonable doubt as to her guilt. I think those 'dissenting' opinions are always welcome here, and even the objections that have been raised have been pretty civilized.

She talked about Zanny to many of her friends for years. I think she just got lucky finding someone to blame it on when she really needed it.

Someone had mentioned back on the old thread that they were watching and there was a split screen with Casey on it all the time. That's not HLN is it, cause apparently I'm missing some of her faces.

www.wesh.com and www.wftv.com stream live with both cameras. WFTV, however, breaks into commercials.

OK, this is my opinion and my opinion only. Ive been with the case since pretty much the beginning. I watched about 90% of the pre-trial hearings as well. To me, Baez IS a bozo. He came into this case and hit the media running. It was his rocket to fame. Ive seen him have motions rejected because they didn't meet legal standards, Ive seen judges constantly have to walk him through things, I saw him almost charged with contempt of court and have to pay a fine because he kept missed court ordered deadlines. He has no business handling this case and the life of this girl. He makes a mockery of the legal system, so yes, I don't respect him as a lawyer.

I know his job is to do the best for his client and I have no issue with that. He has had his moments but I still believe he is in way over his head. Who stands at the podium, in front of a judge, and texts??????

Regardless, I think these threads have been great and friendly and I don't see anyone being told or jumped on for having any kind of opinion :) I had no idea people were feeling unwelcome :confused3

If I recall it was only a few days before Cindy made "the call" so around July 10th <--- in that area.

I dont think she will get the death penalty either. I think the question will be if they charge her with felony murder or aggravated manslaughter but I don't see them finding her guilty of capital murder. (although I think she deserves it.)

Even in her guilt she's gotten lucky. Little Caylee was so decomposed and Casey's parents , whether inadvertently or not, covered up so much potential, there just isn't any real evidence.

But then again, Scott Peterson was a circumstancial case too!

WOW!!! Talk about coincidental to find someone who could be nicknamed Zanny when you've been parading this fictional character you've name "Zanny" for awhile!!! What are the chances that she'd land on something like that!? Sucks for Zanaida Gonzales, though!

From what I can see, the real Zaneida filled out a card at Sawgrass on June 17th, one day after Caylee was last seen. Was that the same day that Casey and Tony went to that apartment complex?

I had only read that she talked about having a nanny for years. The only person I heard specifically say the name Zanny was Cindy and I don't believe much of what she says. Did any of her friends testify that they had heard about Zanny for years? It really would be odd that she had a fake nanny that she named Zanny and a day after her daughter dies, she stumbles on the name Zaneida.

That's one of the questions that just has me stumped. I keep thinking that its just Cindy covering but I just can't quite figure if anyone else remembers the name as well.. And it can't really be years, can it? Caylee was only 2 1/2. We just don't know a lot about her life before about Mar 08 when she started meeting all these new people.

I don't think she'll get death penalty, either. I do see her getting life in prison without parole.

Lemme get this straight. Casey lived with her parents and talked about Zanny the Nanny for years right? How do you never meet the nanny over years? Wouldn't you have, somewhere down the line, met the nanny? Wouldn't at least one of your friends have met the nanny? Nobody thought it was weird that, over years, the nanny was never seen?

ETA -- didn't anyone say "C'mon Casey ... how is it that we've never met the nanny?"

THis is what I hope for. She'll have to live with it every day (and all the other prisoners :worship:)
