Casey Anthony Trial Thread #3

Is it just me or does Ashton do a lot of leading questions as well? I know Ashton objects to Baez doing that a lot but doesn't seem that Baez (or in this case I guess Mason) objects to Ashton doing it. Or am I misreading? Maybe I'm not clear on leading.

I guess it's all in the way the question is asked. ex:
Don't you believe......? leading
Do you believe.....? not leading

That's what I think it is. I may be way off though

It's up the defense team - they would have to be proactive in objecting to the questions. If they don't, then Ashton gets away with it.

As a witness or defendant I would not be thrilled with Ashton's style. Many have compared him to a bully - not sure how that comes off to the jury. I think he needs to tone it down a bit. But it makes for good television!

I think he's great and showing the Jury how to see through all the BS being presented. Bully, yes maybe a little, but i think it's working.

I'll have to pay more attention. I usually play Marbles during technical testimony. ;)

Here's where I think the difference might lie. First, the way the question is asked. There are times when Baez is told to rephrase the question, and honestly, sometimes the rephrase that is acceptable doesn't sound that different to me, but apparently it is. So maybe Ashton just has the right tweaking of the question in the first place, KWIM?

Also, I think that Ashton is more experienced and knowledgeable about when to object than Baez is. Now Mason...:confused3 And, I think Ashton is more "nitpicky"...sometimes it works, and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes I think it pisses JBP off too. But like they say...you don't know, if you don't try.

Sometimes I think they want the question asked because they think that answering it will work in their favor.

Now I'm going to get my coffee, drink it, and re-read this to see if it makes any sense.

THE GATORADE BOTTLE! :scared1:

So, Susan Mears is called in, she brings a 2" thick binder full of info. with her and all she does is tell what kind of bag was found, the contents, how far away the bag was, what the bag contained and that's it!?

Seriously? Two minutes to ID a bag, its contents and how far away it was? Ai yi yi ... honestly?! I guess it's important to confirm that it was there, but poor girl looked like she was ready to testify to more with her big binder!

Well that certainly tells the jury nothing. Cant say there was chloroform in there. No use for anything other wise Ashton would have crossed exam

THE GATORADE BOTTLE! :scared1:
Well, that was exciting. I guess he's just establishing that it was there at the scene. He'll have someone (this guy?) talk about the lab findings. Isn't this one of the defense witnesses that got raked over by Ashton the other day?

I think you should be very impressed. Baez is getting better. Last week he would have spent 7 hours with this witness just to confirm that it was a bag and bottle. He is getting better!

Oops! Spoke too soon. Now he is trying to talk about evidence that isn't actually in evidence. Just when I thought Baez was learning.

They are not in evidence. Big deal the sheriff office had them so what? Trying to get something in again that never was brought into it.

Not in evidence??? You can't use it . duh

LOL That WAS impressive!

Baez is going to get so overwhelmed with trying to learn and follow the rules and regulations, he'll probably try to put Kronk into evidence.

It would make sense to me that she or her family were doing a search for Jose before her second arrest if not sooner. Internet search could have pulled him up, one of Casey's family doing work from the outside (not sure if inmates are allowed to use the internet) or possibly she could have done it herself.

It seems likely this might have been the case since it would have given him more time to look over the case to decide if he was going to take it. This is probably why she filed for a public defender. Because either she didn't have his fee yet, or he wasn't sure if he wanted to get into the hot mess that he suspected would be this trial. Maybe he realized that even though it was a hot mess, that this would have the potential to throw him into the lime light.

It is not difficult to think that this case would get more attention since the case had been in the media off and on, and it would be getting at least some follow up. As well, Casey had no offical story of what happened to Caylee once the Nanny kidnapped my kid fell through. I think this was a big bonus for Jose.

The question does stand to reason though. Who is paying Jose for Casey or is he doing this pro-bono?

Yesterday on HLN, they aired a clip from one of the prison phone conversationss where Lee asked Casey how she came to find Baez. She told him that she heard his name and that he was good through inmates. If I'm not mistaken, she told someone (an inmate, I think) to have Baez get in touch with her. That's how she found Baez ... while in prison. Allegedly because we all know Casey isn't the most honest person.

I heard the same.
