Hello All! I'm Caryn, a regular on the wedding boards! I had my Disney Wedding in January and in my post wedding planning slump, decided to set a new goal for myself to run Disney's Half Marathon in Jan 09. I mentioned it to my sister (Lindsay22, to be married at the WP on 4/26/2009) and we are now running the 1/2 together! I can't wait! KennerCam recommended that I read John Bingham's book "Running for Mortals" and I started it and read half of it while standing in line for 2 hours last week to vote in the Texas Primary. It's an excellent book, very inspirational, thanks Cam!

My husband thinks I'm crazy, he doesn't know why I'd even want to CONSIDER running 13 miles, but he's very supportive, coming to the park with me to run when it's dark and rubbing my feet when I get home (being a newlywed is great)!

I started a running group this past week here in Houston. I was a little nervous at first, I'm not a "runner" by any means and they separated us into three groups, those who couldn't run a mile, those who could and those who could run 3. Since I AM able to run 3, I put myself into that group...I was instantly intimidated, from that group they were going to split us into 4 sub-groups based on the pace test. I told myself that it was going to be OK if I ended up in the last group. Well, I was put into the 2nd to last group (called Fitness). I was pretty excited about that. I guess I'm not in that bad of shape after all, though the 2 mile pace test was painful, I forgot to drink water all day (oops :rolleyes1 ) and I've been  with a chest cold.

My pace time right now is 10ish minutes for a 3 mile run. I'm hoping to improve that to about 8 minutes by Jan. Today was my rest day, I ran 2m yesterday and on Wednesday as well. Tomorrow's schedule calls for 3m and I'm doing a 3m AIDS Walk on Sunday morning.

Thanks for reading! Hopefully Lindsay will chime in here soon!!!

i think i'm getting sick which is NO FUN! i have the AIDS charity walk tomorrow!!!!!

i ran 3.02 miles today in about 30 minutes. it said my pace was 10 minutes 8 seconds, which is a vast improvement from the other day.

mark has been sick all week and i feel like i'm getting it. i've been drinking airborne and emergen-c all day...

Caryn -- I am so proud of you for training for the half. Just making the decision to undertake the training is huge, but you have jumped into it with so much enthusiasm and discipline that I am sooo happy for you. I want you to be so careful about hydrating and about taking in enough calories. You really, really need to nourish your body. Hopefully, your current cold isn't because you are wiping yourself out. Find a good vitamin, sweetie, and don't overdo.
I am so excited to share your journey and absolutely cannot wait to meet you at the start line in January (I'll be the one in Minnie bride ears! Hey! We may need to get a set of those for Lindsay! ;) )

Hi Caryn!!! Welcome!!! You look like you're doing great!!! Can't wait to track your progress. I am doing the 1/2 too in Jan, but my pace is much slower than yours...

Keep it up!!! :thumbsup2

Stacie

thanks for the support ladies!

cam, i think my cold IS because i'm pushing too hard. i'm going to slow it down a bit in the next few weeks.

i met with my running group last night for speed work :scared1: not my favorite thing, but it's supposed to build endurance and after it, like with all practice runs, i felt great!

i think i have 2 or 3 miles scheduled today, but i'm going to try and go to the gym instead and do the bike for my quads!

Sounds like a good plan. On your way home from the gym, stop and buy a good multi-vitamin! ;) BTW, I haven't been able to run at all since I got back from Colorado. My equilibrium is so off from this middle ear thing. So, even though I hate speedwork, I envy you! I spent an hour on the bike last night, so at least it was something! :cool1:

i do need to get a mulit vitamin...i've been surviving on airborne and emergen-c for the last few days. i might get some glucosamine to help with my knees as well...
