I'm on: Screamscape.com and read "Carsland Comfirmed by Iger" I wonder then I see it's true! ?? Anybody have anything to say?
Carland - Confirmed - (9/20/07) In a post over at The Disney Blog, they mention that Disney President, Bob Iger mentions a few interesting things while speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference this week. When talking about the companys theme parks, he said that the parks are in great shape and that Disney will continue to invest capital into the parks such as, We are going to build a Carsland at California Adventure, which will be a real anchor for that park in the near future. Apparently you can listen to a replay of the conference here, but this is the first real confirmation that Carsland is coming and near future doesnt sound quite so far away either.
(9/10/07) While it may be a few years still before you can walk into Carland, the announcement of the project may not be as far off as you may think. Screamscape has heard a rumor that Disney may be considering making a big announcement about the long term future evolution of California Adventure in much the same vein as those famous Disney Decade announcements Eisner make in the 90s. They would use the announcement not only to promote the new Toy Story Mania opening in 2008, but also briefly touch on every other massive project they have in the pipeline.
The big reason behind this bold move is not only to excite everyone about forward momentum and growth of the Disney theme parks once again, but it will be the timing of this announcement that is also key. If Disney decides to go ahead with it, you can look for this announcement to take place in the weeks just before the public vote in Anaheim that will decide if sections of the greater Disneyland Resort District area can be rezoned to allow for residential units and low rent housing.
Given that these residential units are going to be within a stones throw of Disneys site for a future 3rd park down Harbor, I think we also finally get Disney to start talking once again about what they plan to do with that particular site and how it will tie into the overall Disneyland Resort.
(4/27/07) Weve got a few new bits and pieces on the big Carland / Radiator Springs ride. From what our source tells us this version of the Test Track style ride system will be mostly outdoors, though it will go through a few show buildings along the route. However, despite the artwork showing two side by side tracks, weve been told that right now they are looking at only one main track though it could split at several points which certainly sounds interesting.
(3/12/07) The latest rumor now places the Carland concept in development for a 2011 opening if all goes well. The plan is to tie the new Carland into a planned 10th Anniversary celebration for the park.
(2/5/07) There is a good update at O-Meon today that talks a bit about future projects for both Disneyland and California Adventure. They back up a few rumors and some speculation of our own that Carland is likely the next big E-Ticket ride planned for DCA after Toy Story Mania, possibly breaking outside of the park boundaries and taking over the Timon parking lot. Another rumor places closer to the front of the park, taking over the some of the Sunshine Plaza and Bountiful Valley Farm.
(1/18/07) This is just speculation on my part, but a reader at the Theme Park Review forums got their hands on some new Disney concept artwork when the stockholder report was accidentally released a week early and then removed. Borrowing one piece of art at the top that stands out you can see something called Carland, a recreation of Radiator Springs from the Pixar film Cars. Of course the most interesting item of note is that the area has what looks like a racing dual track version of the Test Track ride system in place, which looks like a great idea to me. There have been small rumors for the last few years about adding a Test Track style ride to California Adventure as well as an initiative to bring more family friendly E-Ticket style rides to the park as well to fix the attendance problem. While the Carland artwork gives no clue about what park it was intended for, my gut feeling says that this may be an idea for California Adventure
