Carseat travel bag

Not all kids really need their seat on the plane. Here in NJ, kids must be in a booster until age 8 or 80 lbs, whichever comes 1st. It's what we're used to and wouldn't stop using it just b/c we're in FL and their laws are more lenient. When ds9 was younger, we'd check the booster seat, high back style, which over 40 lbs does not use the inner harness.
Have you ever seen a 7 yo sit on a plane in a car seat?

It's been a long time and hopefully things have changed for the better but when ds12 was 3, we rented a car seat. It was so nasty.... sticky, twisted straps that were hard to adjust, vinyl cover that got really hot in the sun. For that we paid the equivalent of buying another car seat. That's when I decided to buy a bag and use my own.

We bought a car seat bag similar to this:

and it's held up well for almost 2 years now. We also bought our DS a Cosco scenera car seat that we only use when we travel; we paid $40 and it's light. We use the bag to stuff other light things like diapers that take up room in the suit cases. The bag we have has wheels and can be dragged, and straps that can be used as a backpack. We have always checked the car seat; the only time we didn't was the first time we flew with our DS and he was still in his infant carrier, so we checked that at the gate.
