carseat size for plane??

I have been reading on Southwest.com that seats wider than 16inches are not likely to fit. Are there any that are under 16 inches because both mine Alpha Omega(19 inches) and Evenflo Titan 5(17 inches) are too big according to their website. So I'm very confused I don't want to lug the seat through the airport if it WILL NOT fit. My dad has one in his car and will be picking us up so either way I'd have one once we are there.


Any suggestions?? Buying a different seat is out of the question as we are on strict budget in order to afford this move.

We flew with our Alpha Omega many times, without the base. Unless SW has unusually skinny seats, you shouldn't have aproblem.

We have flown with our A/O seat with the base removed as well. We flew Delta but I'm sure the seat size is the same as on Southwest. Just wide enough for the average person. You should be fine with your A/O.

We flew from California to Pennsylvania then back with TWO Britax seats. The only problem we had was they were a little bulky to take down the isle. Then again, the isles are small as it is so no big deal. The Britax fit fine in the seat and we put them next to each other on one leg of the flight. Safety first!! Drag those seats along if it will make you feel better. I think it made my girls feel better also, because they were in a familiar seat.

I went through the exact same worry when we flew SW to WDW in May! We needed to use our Britax Roundabout on the plane, and it measures bigger than what SW says can fit. We actually spoke with someone at SW and they were surprised that was even posted on their website!?! She said it should be just fine. I had to put the armrest up in order to buckle the seat in, and then it wouldn't go back down, but that was perfectly fine since I was sitting next to my son and I didn't need the armrest. It worked out fine though.

Be careful when you install the seat... On the way back home, I put it in, got my son buckled into it, then noticed that the seatbelt was unbuckled! I guess when I was pulling it tight, the buckle hit part of the carseat and flipped right open. I didn't even notice it until I sat down and saw it, somehow it FELT like it was still buckled. I will always double check from now on!

they were a little bulky to take down the isle.

A tip I learned here on the boards that works well - turn the seat upside down so it looks like an upside down L and put it over your arm. This makes carrying it down the narrow airplane aisle a lot easer.

Thanks. I guess there is no need to worry. I definitely would much rather bring her seat she sits quitely and nicely in her carseat in the car and I think it will help A LOT with the plane trip. I just did not want to drag it through to find it wouldn't fit. I'll sit next to her of course so if I gotta leave the arm up I'm sure it will fit.

Now to find my manual for directions to remove the base if thats how you all fit them. I couldn't find the manual awhile back when I had to remove the cover to wash it so I dunno if I have it but I did download pdf from the website so I'll see if I still got it on my computer.

Its pretty easy to figure out. I know I removed mine w/o the manual.

Also, if this is your first time, I highly reccommend that you buy a carseat dufflebag. rightstart.com has one and its cheaper then when I bought it. Sling it over your neck and sholder and youre hands free. There is (was?) a small handle at the top which I held over my sholder, like you would the dry cleaning and got it down the isle no problem. Its worth every single penny and then some!

As long as you stay out of the bulkhead rows you should be fine; the armrests don't lift in the bulkhead rows. As the above poster said, carry your seat upside down like a 7, and you'll be able to maneuver better.

Remember that carseats must be placed in the window position, and they cannot go in the rows directly in front of or behind an exit row.

Oh yeah I planned to buy the carry bag from Walmart.com it has wheels so you can pull it too. Plus it reverses as a suncover for the seat in car use so TONS more use out of it.
