I am wondering if anyone has a closer estimate of opening day/week than "summer 2012". I have to move my DD to California in May (probably Memorial Day week), and we are taking 3 grandkids to DL then. (their 1st trip to Disney!!). They are all young- nearly 3, nearly 1 and just turned 1, and the nearly 3 y/o simply LOVES the Cars movie. I am really hoping it is open by the holiday week--- anyone think I may have a chance?

Is it planned to open in parts, or none of it open until all of it is ready? This is really moot, since we have to go at this time to move my DD. But, I'd still like to know so I can plan! Thanks!

It is hard to say until it is really close. It's a big project and some parts can get delayed and some be done. So it may reopen part or all depending on the costs and benefits of doing so.

I don't think they're going to finalize anything until they know how much if any winter delays them. Probably January or February.

Is there a target completion date? I am a relative DL newbie, but it seems that the last couple of years that the "new" things, such as WOC and Ariel were all targed for a June opening.

If someone were planning a July 4th week trip, is there a possibility that Carsland will be open or partially open.

I think the Carsland part should be open by the 4th of July. Buena Vista street may not be. I read somewhere that CMs were told to say Summer 2012 instead of June for a completion date. Now I'm not sure if that's for DCA as a whole or not.

I don't think Disney itself knows. So certainly everything else is rumor.

Disney tries very, very hard to get new things up and going by June. So you can be assured they will do everything possible to have Cars Land open by June.

The rumors say that:

  • Cars Land itself will likely be ready to open in June - maybe late June, maybe early
  • The other significant project is Buena Vista Street - this is the new entrance to DCA. It is rumored to be trying for June but not sure if it will be July or even August
  • Disney wants to open both at the same time as part of a "grand re-opening" of DCA where all the $1 billion is complete and the park is fully functioning.
  • The delay in BVS might cause Disney to delay opening CL.
Here is my educated guess. And it is only a guess. If BVS is finished later than CL but not too much later, Disney will delay opening CL. But if BVS is a lot later then CL will open on its own when it is ready.

So let's say CL is complete by mid-June. As it approaches mid-June if BVS looks like it will be ready by say mid-July, CL will be delayed until mid-July so they can both open together. But if BVS looked like it would not be ready until August then Disney would open CL in June and then BVS in August.

Right now no ones knows. Not even Disney I suspect.

If CL is done before BVS then I think they should do something similar to what Universal Orlando did with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter; Let on-site guests in on certain days so they can get an idea of how everything will work out before the grand opening.

The likelihood of me being able to be in DLR this summer is slim and the likelihood of me staying on-site is even smaller but I think this would add a really nice perk for the people spending $$$$$ on Disney accommodations.

I 100% agree with this. It makes sense for Disney to try to open it all at once if they can.

I am so anxious to know when Cars land will open! We would like to travel to DLR in early June, since it seems it would be a less crowded time, but I sure don't want to miss CL since that's our main reason for going back to CA this summer. It's hard to wait patiently!!!

I would wait until March to nail down some dates if you are flexible, and don't want to risk missing it by going in early June.

My predictions, since it rained in Anaheim today. Next update we hear will be it's delayed due to rain.

Never mind that currently most of CL work is in areas that are protected from weather.

I doubt it'll be open early June. Unless they are way ahead of schedule on Carsland and way behind on BVS. I agree with skiingfast that if you really want to see CL, don't make definite plans until march or later.
