Cars Land Fastpass...

Total noob question, but where is the fastpass booth for RSR located? Is it right before the ride? I ask because I know occasionally the FP booths will not be directly next to the rides. Thanks.

The fastpass line is in front of Its Tough to be a Bug, but the line will start well before then. Once you go through the gates, go straight towards Carthay Circle and you will probably see the line of people heading down the street. (to your left). A CM will hold a sign marking the end of the line.

.... If you can do it, I strongly suggest going the fast pass route. Standby seems pretty risky in terms of reliability.

I agree ... although we almost always get there at rope drop, we started doing this because of the delayed ride openings and frequent breakdowns ... it was worth the relatively short wait for the FP's which almost guarantees you will get on the ride at somepoint during the day with out the super long wait. They still allow you on the ride after the FP expiration times without a hassel.

Thank you! A line for the line....oh well, it's Disney!

So if you get a fast pass is there a separate line you wait in to get on the ride? So are the fast pass lines a lot shorter than the regular lines? I have seen the wait times showing as 100 minutes and that seems like a long time for one ride. Thanks so much!

Yes, there is a seperate line. It should be short--but we once had to wait for about 45 mins, as there were problems/delays with the ride. But it will always be MUCH shorter than standby.

On EMH days do they open the gates early for non hotel guests to queue up? When we went in September we got in early and did carsland and then at 8:40 I went to line up for FP's and it stretched all the way to the theater. Were those all hotel guests?

Thanks

Yes, they allow people in about 30 mins before rope drop and they can line up at that time.

Not sure I understand the question and answer properly but here is how it works.

The on-site hotel guests get into DCA an hour early on EMH days.

The non-EMH (off-site) visitors are not let into the RSR FP line until the regular park opening.

From what I've read from others and from what we experienced I don't believe they allow non-EMH guests to line up for RSR FP during the EMH.

We just got back and stayed onsite so we were able to get the EMH at DCA two days of our stay. Here is what happened:

On our first EMH day we did CL and didn't quite make it back to the FP line before they let the non-EMH guests in at the regular park opening time. So we were competing with the regular guests. We got in the RSR FP line partway down the side road near the Animation building. People were streaming into the line very quickly.

The second EMH day we did CL and made it back to the FP line before EMH was finished and so we were not competing with the regular guests. We were in the RSR FP line between the front of the line and Carthay Circle restaurant.

Last week was relatively slow season compared to when CL opened this summer. So I'm not sure in the summer or September how long the RSR FP line was or if a large percentage of EMH guests were making the FP line long.

I don't believe they are allowing the non-EMH guests into the RSR FP line before EMH is done. I believe they may be allowed into BVS and held at the end by rope. When EMH is done, the regular guests can quickly get into the RSR FP line. Some EMH guests are already in the RSR FP line.

What is the best plan? We will be staying onsite and entering CA on an EMH day. What time should I get in line for the FP? Do EMH guests line up well before park opening?

We did DCA EMH two days of our trip.

Both times we went to CL and rode RSR standby and then single rider. We did Mater also and one day did Luigi's. Then we got in the RSR FP line.

There were some EMH people who used their entire EMH hour standing in the RSR FP line until regular park opening when they start giving out the FP's. We didn't want to waste the whole hour waiting. On the days we were there, getting back to the FP line about 10 to 15 minutes before regular guests are let in worked fine for us.

It's a calculated gamble. If someone wanted to be really super safe they would stay in the RSR FP line the whole hour of EMH. Someone else would get in line 1/2 hour into EMH. For us one day we lined up 10 minutes before and one day it was right when they let the regular guests in and we still got FP's.

I think that if it was really 40 min after park opening that they were completely out of RSR FP, this was an exception day. Even during the extremely busy summer (and on opening day), they were distributing FPs for at least an hour into the park opening. Since the crowds have died down since then it's been taking a bit longer.

Also they should be running out of FPs a little bit earlier on weekdays because they have shorter hours and the FP return windows will reach the park closing faster.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but today's RSR FP's ran out at 10:39 (according to Mousewait). That's 39 minutes after parking opening. This is similar to what I experienced back in October...an EMH day with short park hours (10-8)...and FP's gone in 40 minutes.

The ride also didn't open until later today so that could also have something to do with them running out so fast. At it was a bit more crowded than we had expected today.

The two things you have to consider are:
1) Park hours: The longer the park hours, the more FPs are available, so the more time you have before they run out. Short park hours (like the 10am-8pm we had during most of the weekdays of our Oct 30-Nov 13 stay) mean those passes can run out quickly and you should adjust your expectations for either how early you need to arrive to line up or whether to just ditch the FP idea altogether.
2) How badly do you need to go on the ride? We really wanted on our first day, and used Mouse Expedition to get us FPs while we did MM and then another hour in DL before heading to DCA. Awesome. That was the only day we used FPs. Otherwise, we would be in Carsland at least once a day and just checked out the standby line. We would go if it was 30 minutes or less, or, once, we went right at park closing, when they still let you in the line and a technical 8pm close actually became an 8:45pm RSR ride time. We saw the breakdowns or heard about them while in other lines, but were never affected by them. Once we got that first ride done, it just became something to do if relatively convenient.
Same with the other Carsland rides (and TSMM). We found the CL lines, other than RSR in the morning (read: always loooong), to fluctuate a lot. You never knew if Mater's or Luigi's would be a 5-minute wait or 30+, except in the final hour when they were short lines. One hour it could be a long wait, and then we'd see "Aladdin" or "Disney Jr." or visit the Animation Academy or Sorcerer's Workshop (highly underrated) and then come out and have a really short wait. So, decide if you're flexible and willing to check out wait times before committing to riding that day or if it is a Must. That will help figure out whether The Line for the Line at the FP machines is worthwhile.
