Cars Land and Buena Vista St. in DCA open on June 15th - new info added 5-10-12

Disney announced on March 7th that Cars Land and Buena Vista Street will officially open on June 15th.

Disney is keeping us excited about what's behind the walls. I've consolidated threads to keep a general list about Buena Vista St. and Cars Land together as new information comes out. For other information visit the Blue Sky Cellar inside DCA or on the net.


Disney California Adventure

The wait is almost over! June 15 is the grand reopening of Disney California Adventure Park. Supercharge your Disneyland Resort experience in an expanded and re-imagined theme park packed with new adventures featuring familiar faces. Closed on June 14

On June 14, Disney California Adventure Park will be closed to accommodate a media preview, and to make final preparations for its reopening. Disneyland Park, the Downtown Disney District and the Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open on that day, so you can play.


New Attractions and Entertainment

2 brand new lands are coming to Disney California Adventure Park on June 15! At Cars Land, the town of Radiator Springs starts up its engines with all-new attractions, shopping and dining — plus Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, Sally, Luigi and the rest of the gang from Cars. Cars Land

Cars Land is 12-acres of high-octane fun for the whole family! Rev it up with brand-new attractions, including Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi's Flying Tires and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. Refill your stomach with delicious food at Flo's V8 Café, Cozy Cone Motel and Fillmore's Taste-in. Cruise over to stores like Ramone's House of Body Art and Radiator Springs Curios for specialty Cars Land merchandise.

Buena Vista Street

The adventure starts the moment that you enter the park through the new Streamline Moderne gates and set foot on Buena Vista Street. Stroll past charming interpretations of 1920s Los Angeles buildings — complete with Art Deco storefronts, Spanish-tile roofs, wrought-iron balconies, sparkling fountains and shade trees. Ride the Red Car Trolley past shops, restaurants and an iconic reproduction of Carthay Circle Theatre, where Walt Disney's first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, premiered in 1937.

Matt you are right. I am at the Expo and saw the presentation today. There was not much new info on DLR. The coolest thing that was new to me was the Buena Vista street fly thru. People are commenting on how the info was light on DLR. It was much heavier on shanghai Disney and to some degree WDW Fantasyland. We were hoping for some bold info on the future of DL park but alas no.

Tomorrow there is a longer presentation on Buena vista street and Sunday on Cars Land so perhaps they are saving some of the good stuff.

This would be my hopes too, that they are leaving finer details for their special presentations. BTW I saw the video because D23 on FB posted that it was from Expo.



I like the Buena Vista flythrough, a lot more detail than the Cars Land. I'm a bit surprised about the bridge, I expected the road to widen but I'm not sure it will. They have to remove some supports of the monorail beam to do so. But it looks like the GGB cladding around the supports, which is now gone will simply get the SoCal concrete cladding in the same place.

I also noticed you don't see what is being called the pumphouse, HG you and I may be the only people that have seen large pumps and it doesn't take that large a building to house one. I'm thinking it going to be small merchandise or ODV.

The other thing missing and this may be on purpose is the new(or older) partners statue.

We'll see in a couple days if any of this comes in later.

Cars Land looks fun. I still don't quite fully understand why they choose Cars to theme an entire land after, but I am still looking forward to it! Looks just like the movie so far!

Very resonable question. The only thing close to a land based on a movie is in Disney Hollywood Studios in WDW. It has Pixar Place, with one ride, TSM. Pizza Planet is even in the land, weird huh?

I'd guess Radiator Springs from Cars works because the Cadillac Range as a back drop is the perfect way to block views out of the park.

I have not had time to read the blog so it may all be explained there. The idea is the Partners statue in DL shows Walt in a business suit. This represents the time after he became a well established businessman. The DCA Partners statue shows Walt in more casual dress with a suitcase much as he looked when he arrived in LA. Mickey has a suitcase too. I thought it was brilliant for what the Buena Vista street theme and placemaking they are building.

The BV presentation showed photos of it and they called it a pump house. The fountain is done and so is the pump house.

They also mentioned how the CC Theater and matching pumphouse will change existing sight lines so one can no longer see PP or the Wharf from the circle. they referred to it as the "portal" to PP and the Wharf.

Along those lines will they try to interrupt the views into Condor Flats? There has been a lot of talk since they covered the radar sign and then didn't retheme it.

How about into Hollywood, though the buildings are more cohesive, anychange seen on that street?

No mention of Condor Flats. I remember something about Hollywood but I think the clash is minimal going from Carthay Circle Theater into Hollywood land.
