Cars 2 is not very good at all!

While I didnt hate the movie I didnt think it was great either. To me it seemed like they tried to jam in too many messages in too short a time. My 4 year old son loved the movie sp I guess thats what counts. It was over his head and corny for the adults. I agree that it doesnt have that heart felt message that the other disney and/or pixar films have. It doesnt give you the warm feeling your used to. The scenes were beautiful.

i agree with you that cars wasn't very good. in fact the short pixar film in front fell flat... lack humor and funnyness.
would i be buying the dvd? probably not.

(There are making a prequel to monsters inc.. i wonder how that's gonna turn out)

I think everyone is forgetting that it is a KIDS movie. I don't understand what everyone is complaining about for petes sake. It is a good, clean movie that kids can enjoy. Maybe someone needs to be complaining about Hollywood making a movie based on a child's toy, that is so vulgar that the child then can't go see the movie (TRANSFORMERS). Who cares that they had an "enviromental agenda". I would rather that be the underlying message in a movie that my kids go see than some of the messages that these other movies are sending out.

Whether or not it's a kids movie isn't the point. They don't lower the price -- why should we lower our standards?

The fact is, there ARE plenty of kids movies that are smart and enjoyable and Pixar has made more than a few of them. There's no reason not to strive for that goal with every film.

I have 5 children, we took the three older ones (an 8yr old and two 4 yr olds) to see Cars 2 last weekend. My kids loved it, my wife and I thought it was good, not great but good. . To be honest I personally enjoyed it more than the first movie, I thought the first one was slow in places. I think the kids though were more excited to see the toy story mini cartoon at the beginning more than anything else. While they LIKE Cars they LOVE Toy Story.

DH & I loved it. He's 50, I'm 45. We loved the jokes, the Bond references, the animation, the chase scenes, etc.

DD (8) liked it but felt confused by it. Most of what made us laugh went right over her head. I think that Cars 1, while a loving homage to Route 66, was more child-friendly.

Still, DH loved this so much he actually wants to play the video game, and he never games!

Yes, Pixar wants to make great movies, but from what I have heard 90-95% of your kids that went to see this enjoyed the movie. My 2 kids are in that group. In fact, my daughter who still has some birthday money (and who is a VERY Princess girl) was super-excited to buy a fun, new Lightning toy because she enjoyed the movie and the characters.
Pixar is known for making movies that are pleasing to all ages, but the #1 audience is still kids. And as far as comparing this movie to other family-friendly, kids movies....in my opinion, Cars 2 proves that Pixar is still the best in comparison with any other company. Obviously Disney makes great movies that have a different style. For me, the Kung Fu Panda movies are about the only movies lately that compare in quality to Disney/Pixar.

Is this one of the great Pixar-emotional movies we've come to cherish? No, but it still has some great qualities. Personally, I thought the animation, backgrounds, and details were outstanding. This is not probably a top 5 Pixar film for me, but neither it is my least favorite. Personally, I enjoyed the fast-paced, action quality of the film. I love action/adventure movies, so I can see myself rewatching this b/c it is a fun movie to sit back and enjoy.

I also agree with the statement about Trashformers. Transformers, Marvel characters, DC characters. These are all toys that are for kids to enjoy/play with (at least that was the case when I was a kid) and yet many of the modern movies featuring these characters are NOT kid friendly...(whether or not many parents take their kids any way).

Looks like Cars 2 continues it's stinky fall to earth - ending up in a distant 4th place last weekend. I guess the good vs. not good decision has been made.

Has any Pixar film crashed this fast before?

Ah heck, even $$$ laden Transformers is going to crash to earth this weekend when Mr. Potter shows up with another golden weekend opening. .....and people said Harry Potter is a flash in the pan. I guess that is true if you don't count the skyrocketing $$$ profits brought in at US and movie profits. Oh yea....don't forget book sales.

I loved Up, but honestly it would probably rank lower amongst Pixar films for my kids. Kids love fun characters, fun jokes, and good action.

Cars 2 is that kind of movie, but done at a high Pixar-level. So, I AM saying that Pixar gave us a strong, Pixar-quality film (maybe not in the emotional aspect, but in fun, creativity, and great animation....definitely)

I don't think so. Up was breakthrough, a totally unexpected theme. A sequel starts from the wrong place to begin with, even though they actually did get it right with Toy Story - But then that was planned from the get go, as I recall.

My version of "the best" is exactly what EVERYONE should demand of these companies. They cannot and will not always hit grand slam home runs but the effort put forward should always have that full intention. It's seems obvious that this was not their intention this time.

Sorry... but Pixar until very recently has consistently stood for great films with appeal for kids and "the adult sophisticates." Even the sillier films -- Monsters and Incredibles, for example, have tremendous cross-appeal.

To recognize that and yet call a film that you admit falls short of that standard "Pixar quality" makes no sense. You can't have a great mediocre film.

Last night I decided to do some grocery shopping late. I came out of the store about 9:30 pm and out of the big van next to me came a family of tumbling, spinning, giggling and laughing children .... and one parent.

I was loading my trunk so at first I paid little attention. When I looked up.....ALL of them were dressed as wizards of some sort, including Mom. They were off to pickup munchies then over to the mall to stand in line for the midnight show.

Tonight our local paper showed the line streaming out of the building for that midnight show.....in ALL the theaters for midnight. They broke the attendance record.


HP is going to leave a sublime legacy. Not only are the movies entertaing, ok, they have that theme park thing too, but I think it's WONDERFUL that children WANT to read. My cousin's children would pickup the newest HP book because they WANTED to read it - and not put it down. What a terrific gift for children....the gift of reading. Way to go JK!!!!!
