Cars 2 is not very good at all!

I never got the whole Cars movie in the first place, It's just not for me.

Agreed. I could never get into Cars. I fell asleep the first two times I tried watching Cars because it was so unappealing. It's a shame because I love everything else from Pixar. I'm not the only one who feels this way about Cars either. Look at the reviews. Cars gets the lowest reviews of all the Pixar movies yet they chose to do a sequel of it. My only advice for Pixar would be to listen to the viewers. Don't make a sequel to the worst reviewed movie in your history. As many reviewers have said, Pixar's untainted image is officially gone, thanks to Cars 2.

So when was ratatouille and up written? And even wall e I know was an idea before Disney but not written before them. Plus prep and landing was after Disney as well. Wether you think they are good or not is your own opinion but loved them all and if you look at awards, revenue, merchandise, etc. I would say majority of viewers thought they were good as well.

Even with the sequels I would have to say they have all been very good. If you look at most sequels that come out they tend to suck and die off but so far all Pixar ones have been huge successes. With cars2 I would actually argue that is pretty original in itself. A true sequel would have been to follow the main character again but this really focuses on a different character and story than the original. It is almost more of a spinoff that is not so much a racing movie but more a spy movie.

Pretty sure you can add Rat to the list. Cars 2 was hideous Disney has ruined Pixar! Next us another sequel MI 2 and they there are rumors for Toy Story 4. When ever you have extra time google canceled Pixar projects (canceled by Disney) such ad Newt. Disney is canceling Pixars new original projects for sequal!

Isn't "Brave" their next movie?

I thought Monsters University was pushed back to summer 2013...

I really enjoyed the movie. I laughed out loud quite a bit. Maybe my expectations were lowered after hearing all the negative reviews. But it was not a terrible movie.

I really enjoyed the Toy Story short. I laughed during the whole thing. :)

Not a fan of all the sequels a well... although this is actually an "improvement" (if you can call it that) from what could have been. Eisner had threatened to make direct-to-DVD sequels to all the Pixar films (as was Disney's right under the contract) if Pixar didn't toe the company line.

So, instead of low-budget, low-quality direct-to-DVD sequels written by in-house hacks, we're getting high-budget, low-quality big-screen sequels written by a Pixar team that has replaced the in-house hacks... maybe in every sense.

I'm willing to give them more time before I pass judgment. "Up" and "Wall-E" were brilliant, daring and artistic and most of those same people are there.

Although I'm not encouraged by the fact that the Pixar/Disney/Bruckheimer collaboration was moved from a high-profile summer release next year to a spring release, which suggests that project might be turning into a flop...

I saw Cars 2 today with my kids and really felt like it was my least favorite of the Pixar movies. Pixar is usually very good at tapping into emotions, but this one, while enjoyable, felt like "just another kids movie" and I found myself questioning whether I would buy it on DVD. That has NEVER happened with any other Pixar movie.

I just didn't feel invested in it, like I have been (to varying degrees) with the other Pixar movies. I hope this doesn't signify a trend for Pixar.

Not just the "green", but all the other reasons in the original post.

We took our 5 year old and 3 year old... it was their first time to a full length (new) movie at the theater..

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I didn't like the "spy" aspect of it (I guess that was the whole thing...lol). I've kept my kids from movies with guns and shooting, etc... and too much violence. I wasn't expecting it to be so violent (for Disney.. )

I thought the movie and the story line was actually okay, but to me it just wasn't Pixar. Maybe just a way to have the Planes home-release sell, and a way to sell more toys.

I loved it and Cars (1) is my least favorite Pixar movie.

I'm really SLOW catching on to this posting thing but will try.

My 8 year old grandson and I just went to see Cars2. Loved the movie and the time we spent with each other. I sorta think that it doesn't really matter how good or bad the film is...but the experience with each other is making memories for us.

Also...could anyone PLEASE help me find the right FE group for the Fantasy cruise in April of 2012? I guess I'm supposed to sign us up with more info. I am so confused with all the blogs and threads etc that I'm totally lost.

I'm making gifts etc, but need to know the number of participants in this group. Sounds so fun. Any directions to put me on the right path would be great. Thanks so much.

Ditto to the pp by butterfly. It was nice to see the Cars characters in a different setting. But, DS(8) was a huge fan of the original Cars when he was younger and he had to check out the sequel just to see "If they did it right!" as he put it and he thought it was bad too.:confused3 When it was over he said and I quote "What a let down... The Mater jokes were better in the first one" :lmao: Now, DD(6) thought it was "Fun..." DD(1) Slept through it :lovestruc

I have to say that I didn't really enjoy this movie either, which is very unusual for me because I usually love the Disney/Pixar movies.

I dozed off during the first half of the movie. DS woke me up midway through the movie to go to the bathroom and I did stay awake during the last half and it did seem to get a little better.

I just read the first reports of week 2 for Cars 2.

Sounds like it's tanking down to a sad $25 million. The Transformers movie is on track to be the third highest opening weekend of all time.

In the world of Disney, there is nothing more important than the all-mighty dollar. They will not listen to a review of the movie but they probably will not forget week 2 $$$$ for Cars 2.

I saw it. When I am sitting in a movie and thinking of the errands I have to do the next day, it's not a good thing. It just wasn't good enough to hold my attention.

It wasn't bad. It just wasn't "magical Pixar". It didn't have the heart of Nemo, the simple love story of Walle or the magical charm of Up.

Not a bomb. Just not what we have come to expect of Pixar.

My 5 year old son loves all things Cars. He was so excited to see Cars 2. Went with the whole family and we all loved it! Even my daughters (12 yrs and 9 yrs) thought it was good!

First off, I thought the movie was beautifully animated, lush enviroments, great colors, Tokyo was outstanding.

However, I feel that the story fell flat on several fronts. While in the past Pixar seems to have developed the story in a more organic/step-wise fashion this move felt as if the premise was very forced. Spy portion excluded the redemption of Mater was much more contrived and out of balance with the action of the racing and it seemed almost an afterthought. Using the dream sequence flashback as a vehicle to help the audience focus on Mater's understanding of himself was jarring.

As to the Spy story, I think that the plot to use eco-fuel then fake that the eco-fuel was dangerous as a way to get everyone to hate eco-fuel and use gas was a bit more that my children could grasp. The introduction sequence of Sir Miles Alexrod was just messy and gave me no emotional tie to the character. To ask that kids bring the cultural back-story of famously poorly made cars (the gremlin) and then try to shoehorn in another bit of exposition, explaining the lemons was poor storytelling. Sure, The Incedibles was also a spy thriller but with a much more understandable and emotion driven plot. Buddy is not a super, hates supers and will pretend to be a super so everyone will like him. Kids can relate. Also, Michael Caine has a recognizable but very flat voice and lacked vitality.

I don't know if Pixar is trying to grow along with it's viewers but with Toy Story 3 and now Cars 2, there is an edge to the storytelling that didn't seem to be present previously. Lotso was much more cruel and manipulative than Sid. Sid was violent but Lotso was mean. And now, when Professor Z orders the murder of the American Spy Car, "Kill Him" it seemed gratuitous and out of character for Pixar, There is a reason that The Incredibles was PG. Cars 2 was just as violent and deserves the same rating.

Sorry so long,

I can't say that I thought the film was "bad," for Pixar at it's worst is still lightyears (pun unintended) ahead of some other animation films. I've never heard so much talk about death in a Disney film ("We need to kill [so and so]"), but it was still just fine.

However, I was upset with the "nice tribute" to Paul Newman/Doc. He was such a crucial part of the first film, and the brief mention left me hanging. They didn't even come out and say what exactly happened to Doc, which would have been helpful to the kiddos in the audience who never really knew Newman.
