Carrying the room card?

I bought the kids' lanyards at Gamestop/EBGames. They were cheaper than on the ship. I did get myself one on the ship, though ($16.99 I think, but it had SWDAS on it) and I really liked having it. For port days, however, I had one of these:

I slipped it in my one piece bathing suit between... well, you know. It worked perfectly. I kept the boys' cards with me, so they didn't need their lanyards in port either.

DH just used his wallet or pocket.

Do your boys know where you've been, um, keeping their cards?

Side note...what would happen if you used your KTTW card for the lights and walked out without it? Locked out?

Yes. If you couldn't get a hold of a cabin-mate or your stateroom attendant, I imagine you'd just head down to GS for a new card.

Ah, DCL issued lanyards...too rough and cheap for me. Am required to wear a lanyard 48 weeks a year at work. I'll pass while cruising, thank you.

Yeah I know the Oceaneer bands are different, but I meant more it's the same idea as the magic bands. Put them on and forget about it kind of thing.

And this is a good point I hadn't thought of. A wristband would be so much more convenient if they could come up with a way to combine the two though.

As long as DCL gives you the choice of a wrist band or card. a lot of people don't want to wear a klunky wristband, and a lot of other people don't want to wear a lanyard.

The ones we got in Feb on the Magic were silky smooth.

Primary reason why you should use an empty gift card, an old hotel key card (like from the night before your cruise stay assuming you're not on WDW property), or even a heavy-stock business card.

You'd have to go to guest services and somehow prove who you are - not quite sure how they'd do that since I'd figure without your key you wouldn't have your ID either - to get a new key. Otherwise attempt to find your cabin-mate and hope they had theirs - or ID to get new ones. And until you had the old one or a new one, no charging anything to your cabin - and if you look borderline too young, no staying in the adult-only area.

That's one definite advantage with the Classics. You have a normal switch and no need to remember to put something in or worry about your host removing it.

Yeah, it makes me laugh remembering how when Magic Bands first started everyone was screaming and whining about "OMG TAN LINES!!!!" but now people are seeming to want them. On a cruise ship. Where I'd think tan lines are MUCH more of an issue.

GS could pull up your profile on their computer and identify you by your KTTKW photo on file, no?

I would still think they would want/need ID. People CAN look alike.

Well, you could say that about any form of ID employing a photo. If the KTTW photos can't be used as some method of identification, then why bother having them on the card in the first place?

If you look like the person in the KTTW photo, and you can verify both name and stateroom #, then I don't see the issue.

I would just hope that they would require some form of ID regardless - or if you don't have it, a security escort to the cabin to show the ID.

FYI: if you have more than one KTTW card in the pouch of the lanyard the tap to open will not work.

When I've locked myself out of a Disney room without ID, I went to the front desk and the sent somebody up with me to let me in and wait for me to get my ID to verify my identity. Easy.

I wear a lanyard at work, so it's what I'm used to. I'm more aware of what is around my neck than what is in my pocket or making sure I put the card in a bag. When leaving the ship, I always put it away in whatever I'm carrying off the ship, although I have been known to just tuck in my shirt.

I suggest springing the couple of bucks and getting some heavy duty/sturdier pouches because while you can tap your KTTW card (while still in its pouch) on the cabin door to get in, you'll still need to remove it from the pouch to make purchases around the ship. Anytime I ordered a specialty drink at dinner...had to yank the card out. Usually most purchases in the shops...had to take the card out. Those flimsy ones that comes with lanyards tear pretty easily after a few uses.

(Side note...what would happen if you used your KTTW card for the lights and walked out without it? Locked out?).

Yep. That's why I bring a card from a prior cruise. I still take it out of the slot when we leave the stateroom but put it on the shelf in the closet. I've nearly walked out a few times without taking it out so it pretty much tells me that I'd be in danger of locking myself out. Yes, I'm usually with DH so we'd have a backup but he'd never let me forget it if I had to use his.

I'm afraid of putting it in my pocket and losing it because I tend to do that with other stuff, and I don't really want to walk around with a bag either if I don't have to.

That's why the lanyard for me. A lot of my pockets are shallow and some pants do not have pockets. At dinner I usually put it into a wristlet purse which also holds my phone so that I can take pictures if a character visits the restaurant. During the day I don't usually carry my phone with me (DH does) and I don't want to carry a purse either. I want to be totally hands-free. I even use the lanyard to carry excursion tickets and Cove Cafe card. When I leave the ship it goes into my purse so I don't lose it.

Do you need to take the card out of the pouch to use it or is everything touch/RFID?

Swiping on and off the ship is also just touch RFID. I only recall having to take it out when buying alcohol.

In February on the Magic the server at the Quiet Cove was able to take my KTTW card in the lanyard/pouch and process the payment by touch, no need to remove it from the pouch. As for not wearing the lanyard, I just looped it through the handle on my backpack when I was out and about on the ship or in the pool. Additionally if you carry your phone for pictures or using the APP for texting etc. many phone cases have slots for credit cards/ID's so it' would be a good place to put the KTTW card too. Pockets are okay but you run the risk of forgetting it if you change clothes or it slips out accidentally. Just some suggestions.
