Carrying pepper spray?

My girlfriend flew back and forth to Chicago last year with pepper spray in her purse and made it through airport security both times with it. She didn't do it intentionally, she just forgot it was in there until after she returned home.

This happened to me! I had two connecting flights to and from Cancun and got pepperspray through customs and security. And then I realized while waiting for our final plane that it was in my purse and I freaked out!

I had it attached to my keychain at Epcot and forgot about it. When security saw it they said I had to either put it in the car or a locker.

For all of those who feel safer thinking it isn't in the parks, here's a little story for you saying it probably is and you just don't know it.

My husband is a police officer here in Florida. We sometimes drive up to WDW after he gets off work in the morning. He just throws a different shirt on over the rest of his uniform (pants, boots, belt). One day by accident he brought his GUN in Epcot. We were past Mexico before he realized it. Security didn't notice at all. In fact, nobody noticed. We weren't there long since we had ADR's somewhere else. Now we try to do a gun check and leave it in the car. If my husband could walk right in with a gun then think of what some nutjob could walk in with.

This is why I am certain there are people with pepper spray in the parks.

As for the OP, I am sure if they see it, they will ask you to remove it. Whether they see it is the real question.

This is coming from the Disneyworld.com website itself...

Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the theme parks?

Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:
•Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
•Alcoholic beverages
•Weapons of any kind
•Folding chairs
•Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
•Pets (unless they are service animals)

Soooo...considering that pepper spray is a weapon....I'd say probably best to leave it behind.

Why would you ever want to carry a weapon into Disney? Under what circumstances would you use it? And please I hope security would confiscate it. I don't want anyone spraying my child or wife for god sake people Its a "happy place" isn't it?

I don't see anyone that is asking if they can bring it in so that they can have it. I see an OP asking if they need to remove it from their keys ahead of time. Pretty innocent question in my opinion.

I have always had pepper spray on my person. My father was a cop and asked me to do so once he felt I was old enough to handle it. I still carry some 15 years later. I am not someone who is paranoid about things happening (you can see that in my posting history on subjects such as letting your child go to the bathroom alone), but carrying pepper spray is just a simple step I can take.
