Carrying on Wine?

There is a local winery here in Indiana (believe it or not) that makes my very favorite wine. I would like to take a bottle or two on my next trip, but I am unsure of the current regulations. Even post 9-11, we carried wine back from California, but I am sure that has stopped. I have found some nice aluminum carriers that I could pack in the luggage, but would raise suspicion?

Any suggestions? Thanks

You can't carry the wine on with you because of the new regulations. I've packed bottled liquor twice now with no problems in my checked luggage. It will not raise any eyebrows at all. The trick is loads of bubble wrap. Yeah, don't be stingy with it. Then you pack it in a tight fitting suit case in the middle of the clothes. Some take it a step further and put large ziplock bags around it with duck tape just in case it does somehow bust. I figure they're tossing it around - it needs to be in the middle with soft clothing around it. It's worked like a charm. They ALSO have wine boxes from what I hear that is designed for wine bottles and air travel. See if the winery has them. You could also ship it down ahead of time - lots of bubble wrap and peanuts.

Now that you can't carryon anymore, I have also packed it in my luggage. No breakages (yet) and I just wrap it in lots of layers of clothes! The bubble wrap is a great idea.

Last month I had my bottle of wine in my checked bag. Wrapped it in two layers of bubble wrap, then a couple of hand towels and then put it in a zip-loc baggie and stuffed it in the middle of my checked bag..amongst all the clothes. It was just fine when I arrived at WDW!!

We've done exactly the same coming back from California-two plane changes later-no breaks!

I recently brought home a bottle of Bombay Saphire, a bottle of wine and two glasses from the f&w festival - in my checked baggage. Since I hadn't really planned for this, I didn't have a bubble wrap. I wrapped each of the bottles and the glasses in clothing (t shirts, towels, socks) then put them in a wine box (that I got from Germany) then wrapped more clothes around, then put them in two disney plastic bags. Made sure they were in the center of suitcase (clothes and shoes on top and under an on all sides) and made sure the suitcases that had them were STUFFED so that even with tossing around, there wouldn't be much movement. All made it home fine. Be careful though, one of my suitcases ended up being over 50 lbs and at the airport I was rearranging - carefully- to redistribute weight between bags.

I believe the new regulations for carry-on restrict liquids to 3 oz. bottles.

Absolutely true!! No way can we carry-on our wine bottles..maybe a few nip bottles though! Just kidding. :teeth:

We just carried a few bottles of wine down wrapped in packing foam in a checked suitcase. To be extra safe I made sure they went in with DH's clothes not mine :thumbsup2

Actually, there is no need to ship peanuts. You can carry them on, or if you ask nicely, they'll give you extras on the plane! :rotfl:
