Since we have not cruised before I'm not sure of the policy for drinks you bring onboard. Can you carry around a can of pop/beer or wine? Should these drinks be kept in your room. What about bottled water?

Welcome Angie_Ohio! Yes, you can carry on the beverages of your choice. We usually get beer and Pepsi to carry on and a few waters so we can refill the bottles as the water is good (in my opinion anyway) on the ship. We have always checked ours through when we drop off our luggage but some here put it in their carry-ons, just be sure your bag will go through the xray machine.

There is a cooler box in your cabin that you can use and your cabin steward will keep your ice bucket full. We have a collapsable cooler that we usually take and keep cans in that - our steward has always kept that full of ice as well. The hard sided coolers are not allowed unless you have medical reasons - the collapsable ones are easy to find.

Although we mostly drank our carried-on alcohol, there were times we would also go to deck 4 at night and sit on the deck chairs enjoying the ocean breeze and a nice cold drink (that we brought on board)..... no one said a thing to us about drinking it in a public place.

I know many discourage from packing drinks that you are bringing on board with luggage in case of breakage

Question - I was thinking of bringing an extra piece of luggage on wheels - size which you could carry on to an airplane - packing it with drinks once we get to Florida (we will fly down on Friday) - I realize I (or rather dh) will have to wheel around until our room is ready - but does DCL have a restiction on what they consider "carry on"

Thanks
Lil

Lil1062 - that is the size we fill with drinks and leave with the rest of our luggage, then we don't have to wheel it around, it just shows up in the hall outside our room later that afternoon. This approach has always worked for us.

Ah so your the one who had something break & soak other peoples luggage with an unknown substance.... :rolleyes2

Dr. Cavin - it wasn't me, honestly. We always pack cans and I put them all in an extra strength garbage bag so that does NOT happen. It would be bad enough to get my own things wet and sticky but I would feel really bad if I got someone elses things all pop/beer.

We have always told the porters what we have - and they say not to worry and take them.

If only everyone who does this goes to the pains you do, but unfortunaltly people just throw in cans/bottles & throw it on the pile... At the terminal it probably is not that risky, but at the airport it is just plain crazy

If you have ever had your suitcase showup all sticky & dripping wet, you know exactly how I feel on people doing this!!!

I can only imagine the mess. We usually rent a vehicle and do a grocery stop on the way to the port so the airline is not an issue. I did take 6 bottles of sparkling wine on a plane once and that we did keep with us when we boarded since it was glass.

I will keep ours with us in November - just to be safe!

Lil - We did this -- I bought DH a rolling cooler for Christmas last year and that is what we packed everything in. We were careful to wrap everything up to avoid breakage and were apparently successful. For it to qualify as a carry-on, it must be small enough to fit in the scanning machines (at the airport and at the terminal). We actually checked ours to avoid having to keep it with us and it worked out just fine.

Garbage bag..good call!

I'm packing a case of water. Case is solid/durabl/e itself, I don't see it breaking easily since I've piled my other heavier bag on it without issue so far.

But will most definately seal it in a garbage bag to boot! I had packed the beach towels around it for extra cushion and absorbtion should anything happen :( No flying..just dropping at the port. Had intended to let the porter know it was in there as well and tip for good handling and of course so the porter doesn't hurt himself moving the bag! Actually they would probably do more injury to themselves with my suitcase full of clothes..good gosh that thing is heavy! ;)

I use those space saver bags for clothing..after reading this thread about liquid other than water breaking..kinda glad I am. The clothes would survive should anything happen to the suitcase.

I had thought about bring some of my pepsi edge and had even kept a shoebox to put a few cans in to carry on with me. Would never put liquid that would soil/discolor others posessions in checked luggage.
