Carrying lunch on a plane

My mom, bless her, made us banana muffins for our last trip. They held up well, were filling, and were easy on the stomach. I find that I do best on planes with simple foods. We've also had good luck with bagels.

Gopicnic meals are great. There is something for everyone-kosher available too. You can buy them online or at target. Turkey sticks are good.

They are boxed and also have a soduku game on the inside of the lid.

They are a good poolside snack too.

Rules for TSA. Foods that cannot hold their shape without a container are liquids, and must fit in your 3-1-1 baggies (one 3-1-1 baggie per paid passenger, but you can carry all of them. Names on the bags make it easier through TSA with kids.). Condiment packets must be in your baggies if you have them.

Condiments already on food don't count as liquids. Your choices for ice are bags of frozen fruit, or empty baggies to be filled with ice once you get airside. SWA serves drinks gratis, and they carry juices if that is what you prefer for the kids. You can bring empty water bottles through TSA and fill them airside.

Best to avoid foods with strong odors such as tuna, etc., but as long as it is not liquid, anything they like will be fine. My kids thought Lunchables were a high treat on planes; they didn't normally get those. Packing snacks in individual small ziploc baggies will make it easier to manage mess. Bring some wet wipes.

Darn, no Limburger sandwich.

Please, no smelly food! Surprisingly, some of the most potent I've noticed have been sub sandwiches. Food odors tend to linger on long flights, doesn't help those who are prone to motion/air sickness (not a pretty thing, even for those with strong stomachs to view on a plane).

Doling out various snacks throughout a long flight Vs an all at once meal works well and burns some time occupying the kids.

It might be just my family but kids' stuff seems to 'fly' off their tray tables. Thinking grapes might not be the way to go if your kids are anything at all like mine. :rolleyes1
