I usually carry a backpack with 1 or 2 water bottles because we drink water all day long. I would like to ditch the backpack this trip because it gets heavy and it's too hot...I also don't like anything hanging around my neck..anyone have some tips?

I've read some people on here have gotten free cups of water at counter service but I've never done it.
Myabe someone else can help :confused3

I don't know how much time you have, but most outdoor outfitters have a waist-pack type deal that's just for a water bottle or two. I got one at Eastern Mountain Sports, and I would imagine places like REI, Campmor and maybe even LL Bean might have similar. All those places have web sites you could check out.

Just as an example, here's a link to something Campmor has - simple and inexpensive! (another idea is a Nalgene bottle with a carabiner to clip to a belt).

Yes, you can get cups of ice (with or without water) at all counterservice. We've done this many times. :goodvibes

I don't know if you are going to be carrying a bag at all, but my overland donner bag has two water bottle holders on either side of it. Once the bottles are in pockets, you can't even tell you are holding anything at all. Very sleek and put together! I love mine!

We don't bring a bag... but we did buy one of those overpriced straps 2 trips ago that came with the water bottle at MK. Since then, we've been able to bring it everywhere. We take turns wearing a water bottle. And, the strap has now doubled as the home of our pin collection. :goodvibes

I have the same problem - I want to bring water, but not the bulky backpack. I think I have found the solution, but will have to wait until my September trip to test them fully. I first saw these gadgets in an Eddie Baur catalouge for about $20 each, but then found some in Wal Mart in Sporting Goods for around $4 - it is a water bottle holder that hooks to your belt loop. There is an adjustable ring that slips around the top of the water bottle, and then a short strap, and then one of those clips like rock climbers use to hook onto your belt loop. I bought one each for me and DH - can't wait to see if they work!

I just checked out the overland donner bag and from what I saw, I was impressed. I am always searching for the right bag to take to the parks. Does the strap bite into your neck? Enough room for a small video camera and a digital camera? Thanks.

About the Donner Bag I love mine. It was littleladyKaty on here that helped me decide to get mine with another post that was on here that was specifically to those bags and the strap doesn't bother my neck
