You can carry a camera/purse on most rides at disney, right?

I have a digital camera, but it's not small enough to fit in my pocket. If I wasn't able to take it on rides I'd have to leave it, but I'd worry about it getting stolen. I would take a disposible but it won't take as good quality picture as a digital will.

We also plan to do Universal/Islands of adventure, and I know there are some roller coasters there.

I have a larger digital camera that we carry with us everywhere-never a problem, it has it's own case and I just throw it over my shoulder. At IOA the rides where you WILL get wet have a covered area in the center for cameras, shoes/socks and anything else you don't want wet.

DS takes his fanny pack on all rides and i take the backpack or over the shoulder bag. as long as it can zip closed and you keep a firm grip on it you are fine. i keep my digital video camera and my regular camera in my bag all the time.

I carry mine in the ugly ol' fanny pack! Not pretty, but it stays dry and secure.

I've never had a problem and I carry my backpack and camera on ALL the rides everytime we visit WDW.

However at Universal/IOA certain rides (Hulk, Dueling Dragons the Mummy can't remember if there are any others) you will not be allowed to carry ANYTHING onto the rides. Free lockers are provided (time limited) so it shouldn't be a problem.

I carry mine in a fanny pack

I always have ziploc bags in case of rain, I just stick it in the bag and then back in my pack to make sure it doesnt get wet

I own a large-ish Canon Rebel SLR. I have a padded shoulder bag for it, and I keep a smaller plastic bag tucked inside that. If I'm going on Splash Mountain or something, I slip the camera & case inside the plastic bag, and try to slide it under my legs or something.

Some rides, I know, have nets hanging from the back of the seat in front of you to hold your knick-knacks. That's usually pretty helpful.
