I think I know the right answer, but would appreciate anyone who will clarify for me. Do you pack your camera and film in your checked luggage or your carry on bag?

Thanks in advance! :)

You should take it in your carry on. Also have the film in a bag that you can hand the screener so it does go through the scanner.

Never put anything of value in your checked luggage.

Camera film will be destroyed if it goes through the airports xray machines. Take it out. Never never never carry anything of value especially electronic equipment in your check in luggage as you can not lock that. electronic equipment will disappear as fast as cash.

I also always carry my camera. I alsmost never buy film, until we get to orlando. I pick it up at our grocery stop.

We use Snapfish.com for our developing. E-mail them ahead of time to get plenty of envelopes for mailing, and mail our film as we use it from our resort. Sometimes the pictures are waiting for us when we get home. They post the pictures on-line within a few days. Works great.

This way, it saves packing space, and eliminates the "will my film get ruined" ????

Thanks everyone! I was curious more about the security scanning equipment for checked luggage and its effects on film, compared with the security scanners that people go through with their carry ons. From an expense standpoint, I won't pack anything of value in my checked bags. Should have clarified that. Wondering more about which security scanners are harder on the film itself.

Got my answer! Thanks again everyone for the replies! :)

What about digital camera media? Will the scanner effect that?

I asked at the airport and they said no, it's OK to go through the scanner (I only put it in carryon).
